Hi folks. I’ve tried methocarbamol for my mare for SI/lumbar issues and she responds positively. I use it mostly to address her back seizing up in temp swings, cold/wet etc
I got a 20 day supply, liquid suspension, from the vet for $90, and she hates meds like that, so I asked for powdered hoping she’ll eat it in grain, and 20 days supply was $130. So with this being an over the counter product in Canada, does anyone have a more cost-effective option? Are you folks paying similar prices? Any Canadian online pharmacy type options?
I’m in Ontario, if that matters.
Thanks!
Are you saying the drug in general is OTC in Canada? If so, just feed what I do—750mg tablets crushed with a coffee grinder, mixed with feed. Even my picky horses have eaten it. Probably less volume than something compounded with flavoring. I agree liquid suspensions are gross.
Yes, I know I can grind up pills. I’m looking for recommendations where I can buy in bulk for a good price in Canada. It seems hard to find up here unless its mixed with am NSAID. So I am hoping folks in here can share their sources
You can get straight methocarbamol from the pharmacy, you just have to ask for it. It’s a “behind the counter” drug here (I’m also in Ontario). I had to buy some years ago and even at that time my vet told me it was cheaper for me to buy from the pharmacy than from a vet source.
How many doses were in the compounded ones you got? The pills come in bottles of 500.
Do you have a pharmacy store called CVS up there or Walmart? Their pharmacies are usually cheaper and CVS has a program called GoodRx. Misoprostol is usually 120 and with the GoodRx program gold I only paid 60.
My vet has given her compound at 5gm 2x day and she has been on 10 day course, for an acute flareup. If my math is right, that’s 10 pills of the 500gm per dose, 2x per day (20 pills per day) to equal the compounded formula.
The compound is 20 days, that would equal 400 human pills at the 500gm dose to equal the compounded bottle of oral suspension at $90ish dollars.
