Does anybody know any Canadians that make basic bosals? I only found one maker…but hers are $3000 fancy multi colour bosals…I just want something simple for western dressage. Alternatively, I would love to learn now to braid my own. Any ideas/advice?
Can you ask her if she will do something simpler for you or know someone who will ? There’s a lot of hours involved in crafting those bosals, the material is not easy to deal with plus balance and symmetry have to be dead on or it can effect handling or even sore the horse. Decades back people were paying more then that although that was for Luis Ortega’s work.
Just an offhand idea but…there’s a Western store out near LA with a full saddlery. I know they make gorgeous headstalls to die for and would bet they make bosals to customer specs, maybe even have some they made as off the rack offerings. It’s called Broken Horn. They have a website but only the phone number is useful, been redesigning it lately. Again. No catalogue far as I know.
Call them. They are knowledgeable and nice. Easy to deal with. Even with shipping and duty, might be a good way to go.
I get facebook posts from Smokin True Ranch in BC and they are running a bosal riding clinic with Carol Hamel this weekend? I don’t know if she’s Canadian but she’s also done clinics in Alberta. I would FB message the ranch or other venues that run bosal clinics and ask for advice. They would certainly know the options out there.
Thanks! She is Canadian. I found her on facebook and have sent her a message!
