Canadian high performance team

Kendal was at Cornbury last weekend with Audacious - 3* placing 6th, I believe in her division.

Rumour is Mitchell is not 100% :frowning:

I am wondering who will be selected for Pan Ams!

If Eventing Canada holds to their fixed pattern, they will announce it about 2 days before they need to leave…

I believe with the new committee members of Rebecca, Emily, Bruce Mandeville, Bonnie Mosser, Shandiss, and a few others I can’t recall :woman_facepalming:, the naming of the team will come shortly. :crossed_fingers:

Jess also regularly goes to Ocala during the winter, so there are lots of lesson opportunities there…not sure who she works with though.

I am just really happy that we have two more getting 4* experience over the pond, and both with a respectable finish at Arville for first timers outside of North America, and competing at another CCI 4* this weekend.

I imagine the funding/sponsorship covered much of the cost to compete in Arville, but that they have each fundraised an additional $50K to stay another month and compete and gain invaluable experience.

Wondering who will be selected for Pan Ams.

I’m assuming Karl and Hot Bobo, but we all know how selection goes in Canada. Politics first, results second.
Seems like Katie is a great candidate.
I was hoping for Hanna, but she’s had some unfortunate recent luck with her outings :frowning: Still slightly hoping for her! As she is re-routing it looks like while she’s still in Europe.

I’m unsure if Colleen can, I heard she broke her back in August? timeline could be a bit off.

Jess will probably be selected just for selection purposes.

Who else do we have?
Hawley and Jolly seem to have had up and down results as well.
Kyle Carter looks like he’s trying for selection and as well as Selena. It seems we do have some options at least this year!
Waylon, I think he has one up and coming.
Melissa Boutin has had some good results.
Jamie Kellock seems to be having an off season, bummer as its nice to have new faces at the level.

What are your thoughts?

I suspect Lindsay Traisnel and Bacyrouge are also in the mix.

They absolutely are. Dreamy has been having a very good season! Rumour has it that the news might go out today.

Wondering about Holly Jacks - I haven’t seen her Candy King horse out in a while, curious what’s going on with him. Shelby Brost is in the US, don’t know if she might be a contender

I just saw a post shared with the team announcement.

Colleen Loach, FE Golden Eye
Karl Slezak, Hot Bobo
Lindsay Traisnel, Bacyrouge
Michael Winter, El Mundo

First Reserve
Jessica Phoenix, Freedom GS

Second Reserve
Dana Cooke, Quatro

I’m disappointed not to see Melissa Boutin in the mix. Her record on Colleen is impeccable. Also surprised to see that Jessie isn’t on the list with Watson but maybe he’s off again??

Jessie is currently showing both Freedom and Watson in Plantation this weekend in the 4*. A better dressage test on Watson

It’s really too bad that we can’t send true up-and-coming horses to the Pan Ams to bring people up, rather than need them for Olympic qualification.

For some of the missing names, it’s possible some owners of 4 or 5* horses don’t want to risk them going to South America for a 3*.

Too bad about Holly Jacks, but Candy King is not current on his FEI registration, so unfortunately I assume that means he is having some time off.

Here are FB comments from Kyle: “Congratulations to the Pan Am team! A well deserved group to represent Canada! Colleen Loach, Mike Winter, Dana Cooke, Jessica Phoenix, Karl Slezak, Lindsay Traisnel
The new High Performance Model for Canada is looking good.”
And from Holly: “Fabulous team chosen for the Pan American games in Chile . The selectors nailed it and I can’t wait to see all 4 of these athletes kick some serious but In Chile !!’ Go Canada !!”

We will eventually get there - remember the USA has had their struggles too (Canada qualified in 2014 WEGS for the 2016 Olympics; the US didn’t) and are now in position to send a “less seasoned” team to the Pan Ams.
Let’s give this team all the support we can!:canada::heart:

Hyde Moffatt would be 30 min away, I think?

The problem is, you have to want the lessons to take them.

I find a lot of our UL riders think they don’t need them, and really, everyone needs lessons all the time. Its not to tell you how to ride, its to have eyes on the ground to say you need more this or that to get more out of the horse.

Anyone know if there have been changes made to the Pan Am selections? EC took down the post announcing the team. I remember there was a disclaimer that the selected team was still subject to approval (can’t remember by who though) - did something change?

The original post was Sept 22 and it’s gone poof. Hopefully all the riders and horses are ok!

The Canadian Olympic committee must approve.
