Canadian tack shops with good used selection and good advice?

I am still looking for a dressage saddle for Dani. I had planned to buy new/custom, but with the Canadian dollar being what it is, I am trying to go used instead. As she is a unique size, I am having no luck locally or on facebook.

I know of good used tack stores in the US, but what about Canada? Ones that will work with me to fit Dani and let me take a saddle on trial?

Bahr Saddlery has a good selection of used saddles: http://www.bahrsaddlery.com/

As does Baker’s https://www.bakerssaddlery.com/. Their website doesn’t always work, but if you call the store Carmen is usually very helpful.

Sprucewood Tack http://www.sprucewoodtack.com/ doesn’t have a huge used selection, but I’ve had really good experience with their customer service.

Where are you located? I am trying to sell my Passier PSL, 17 1/2 medium width. It is older but in good condition. I had posted it on Facebook on Saddles for Sale but had only one reply. I don’t want much for it.

I would highly recommend contacting Donna @ Precision Saddle Fitting. I have had tremendous success in dealing with Donna. She really knocked it out of the park with my new saddle, it is amazing!! She has a great selection of saddle and may have a lead on a few used ones as well. Both Tudor and Horse & Rider each have some used dressage saddles in stock on consignment as well. You can also try The Tack Collector in Calgary…

Also, Apple Saddlery has a selection,

And Bahr Saddlery as well…

Unfortunately she needs an XXXW. Facebook also had a Dressage Tack for Sale in Canada page (or something like that) if you haven’t seen it.

I tried to contact Donna last year, and she didn’t seem to have any hoop tree options, and didn’t seem to have any interested in helping me find an option. Maybe I caught her on a bad day.

If you’re in Alberta, I would check out the Tack Collector in Calgary first. Not too sure about their dressage saddle stock, but they do lots of high end close contact saddles, so I would assume they have the same for dressage saddles.

You may have a hard time finding a hoop tree here - one was recommended for my horse and when I asked Bahrs about them both fitters claimed they didn’t know what a hoop tree was (same answer for k panels). Bahrs has had a couple of Black Country in their used selection so it’s worth checking online. Bakers may have something but you will have to call Carmen - site is rarely up to date.

Have you talked to Trumbull Mountain Tack in Vermont? They have a great used selection and seem to specialize in hoop trees / hard to fit horses

I just took a peek at the Bahrs site and they have a used Duett with 36cm tree. Is that wide enough for you?

Bahr Saddlery is great. I just bought a saddle from them (new), but they’re great when it comes to trials.

75 used Dressage saddles on the site right now:

The Tack Collector always has tons of dressage saddles. They list them all on their facebook page so you can take a browse through there.

They albums show the saddles grouped by size. And if you are looking for any particular brand/size you can always call them and leave your name/contact with them and they’ll let you know if anything comes in.

Trumbull is who helped me find my current saddle. I think they are great, but with the current exchange rate, I would prefer to shop in Canada if I can.

BigMana1: no, her current saddle is a 38cm tree, and it is on the narrow side for her…or just the wrong shape…I actually can’t pinpoint what needs to be different and nor can the saddle fitters I had out, I just know it isn’t quite right and there is friction on the top of her shoulders.

Bahr Saddlery will ship saddles for trial, or at least used to.

The Tack Collector is I think the go-to place in Alberta.

Equi-products (Calgary) also carries some used saddles, or used to.

Crazy Carrousel in Hudson Quebec…

Tack Collector says they will ship on their site. I don’t know how much it would be though…

Equi-Products has all but gotten out of saddles. Last I was in there they had 5 available that were the remnants of what they used to stock. I believe they continue to offer saddle fitting services through a fitter associated with the store. But they don’t bring in saddles or do consignments from what they told me in the spring when I was looking.
