can't find water bucket cozy to stop from freezing!

They seem to be sold out everywhere! I’m noticing the water bucket in my horse’s stall is starting to get freezing layers on top. Anyone know of any places online to buy them?

Smartpak had their brand in stock as of Friday- my order was just delivered today from them. I couldn’t add anything to the shopping cart from the Wild Angel Cozy website, but hopefully the Smartpak ones work as well

Good luck with SmartPak, their shipping is all backed up.

For a quick fix, you can wrap the buckets in bubble wrap and then cover the bubble wrap with duct tape. It won’t do as much as the cozies with the cover on, but it’s a decent and cheap alternative, especially if you have horses that rip the cover off anyway (like mine). (By cover I mean the part of the cozy that goes across the top of the bucket, leaving a hole for drinking. I have had to remove the covers from my cozies because my horses like to rip them off and trample them into the bedding.)

I have the Smartpak brand and I’ve seen the Wild Angel Cozy ones. From my personal experience, I think the Smartpak ones are better, the insulating material seems thicker and easier to put on. I don’t use the covers for my bucket cozies but even over night the amount of ice that forms at the top is minimal and really easy to break. I love mine!!

Smartpak and Wild Angel are all sold out - everywhere. I’ve called around local shops and none have them either. :frowning:

hammer? ;)
I know winter water intake is nothing to joke about, but I have never seen a bucket cozy in my life. I have heated tubs outside and when they have to be in I have one heated bucket and the rest I rotate/ defrost in the basement and water often, and smash the ice open with a hammer if need be. Growing up I rode at a lesson barn with 60+ horses and in the winter you had to water the horses with a hammer in one hand, hose in the other!
Do those bucket cozies actually work??

Folks around here are doing this to keep water liquid. Don’t forget to cover the bottom of bucket as well, or bucket will freeze there fast. They are not covering the tops, but water is staying liquid for more than an hour or two.

It does work especially if you can fill with warm water.

Yes, they do! Prior to using a bucket cozy, my water bucket would be just about frozen solid. With the bucket cozy, I only get a thin layer of ice on top.

Big storm last night and still no power, I wouldn’t mind one for my senior mare! She is the only one I currently have who’s actually allowed a heated tub inside. -20*C windchill tonight and worse tomorrow night, I expect a the ice will be a few inches thick :frowning:
