Cantle bag help

I need a nylon cantle bag for a english saddle and what I keep finding is just too long/ big. Its a english endurance trail addle so it has dee rings. My old old weaver bag zipper finally broke and the new ones are huge.

I have the easycare stowaway bags. No bounce AT ALL. They slip over the cantle and have straps that secure to the billets. Love them, and they’re very popular with endurance riders in my area

Could you just get a new zipper put in your old cantle bag? Looking at my cantle bags, a new zipper would not be hard to put in.

Easycare Stowaways are the absolute best. I went through 5-6 different brands before I tried these and I love them. I have used mine for 3-4 years and wash them a couple times a year and they look new after washing.

How do you wash them? Do they stay water proof/resistant? (Or are they in the first place?)

I put them in a mesh laundry bag and run them through the washer with regular detergent and let them air dry. They are at least water resistant and have stayed that way. I do not wash them often- maybe once a year.

the stowaway look like they slip over the cantle and i would be sitting on them or they would rub the top of the cantle?
I rode with a small western type cantle bag and it was hard to dismount and got my leg stuck on the bag.
The saddle had lots of dees on cantle andpomel. So english riiders educate me please…

I am a Western rider at this point, although I started out as an English rider many, many years ago. I don’t know why you couldn’t use the Western cantle bag if you have plenty of Ds to attach it to the saddle. You could also try contacting one of the retailers, like Rider’s Warehouse to ask what they think. The Western bag nests really nicely behind the cantle and does not move at all.

I’m for the English Stowaway too. No bounce, no shift. The pocket for the cantle is lined with soft fleece so it doesn’t rub the leather. It doesn’t come down the seat all that far on top-if you end up sitting on it you might need a bigger saddle.
