I had the opportunity to meet Capone I (Contender/Ladalco) this week. He is a very impressive boy and seems to have a lovely temperament (to compliment his jumping ability), which he is supposed to be passing on to his offspring. I saw one of his sons: a pony stallion out of an Arab mare who looks just like a mini version of his daddy and apparently jumps like him too! I’m curious to see other Capone babies; I’m a big fan but I’m still not sure whether he’d suit my mare or not. Are there any COTHers with Capone kids they want to brag about? :winkgrin:
Please take pictures! I know his breeder very well and his family! He is a fantastic stallion! I hope he will breed some Holsteiner mares!

ETA: There was a real nice filly that I loved but cant find her. The person that imported the stallion Unico M had her. (I liked him too but he was sold to goldenventure and now cant find him too)
Is this the Capone who went through such a horrible time?
We have a 2008 Capone I mare. She has a sweet temperament and very powerful jump, but she is a rather big old fashioned mare. Not sure I would use him on a mare who needs refinement or more blood, but I’m a fan.

We have another mare in foal to Capone for late summer and I’ve bred to him since 2009. Good tactible babies with never a fugly day.

Very modern with the BEST brain ever! Jumping seems to be second nature to her, and we constantly have to remind ourselves she’s a baby and to back off. It would be very easy to just overdo it with her.

I didn’t take pics, but I have video of him “free lunging” (ie. ripping around the arena). He’s pretty impressive, I’d love to see him under saddle in the future.
Yes, it is. Fortunately, he seems to have landed softly and is in great hands now.

Your baby is lovely, Copilot!! Was the mare a very modern type? I want one just like yours! 
My mare could use a more typey stallion, and needs a stallion that will shorten up her back a bit (which I understand Capone typically does). However, she’s not particularly old-fashioned and has a decent amount of blood; I don’t want any heavier, just typier. She’s also quite hot, which I don’t mind, but I also wouldn’t mind a slightly quieter/easier temperament (which I understand Capone typically produces as well). Corinne told me that none of the babies she’s seen have been as heavy as/heavier than Capone himself, so I’m wondering if he might be a good match.
I like him a lot, he is one of the stallions I am interested in for my full TB AFR daughter if I breed her back this year.
I am also very excited that a Capone daughter is in foal to A Fine Romance for 2013.
This is a friends filly at 4 months.

Well I might not bring anything worthwhile to this thread but just to say that when I was looking this year for a great stallion that would match my 3 years old special filly (Nabab de rêve out of a daughter of the no.1 jumper broodmare in Holland for the past 9 years) Capone was my first choice.
He is really a great stallion and when I saw one of his foals at LinMar Farm last year, this was decisive.
And I will also breed a second one to him, my Indoctro / Emilion mare.
Both mares are tall, leggy with a rectangular frame but one is a real beauty queen and the other… well let’s say she would have asked me to pay her a nose job if she has been my daughter!!! … I call her my Moose head with affection as she has her daddy’s looks, so not very feminine. But to her credit, her body seems to start to get in proportion to her head… so did I said she was tall?!?
It will be interesting to see what this stallion will bring to this equation but I doubt I will be disapointed !

Our mare is Quick Star/ Alme and from a Hanoverian damline. Copilot’s more modern mare is from a TB damline. I really think he crosses best with some blood. FWIW, we bred our mare to a half TB and got a beautiful modern colt. We were so pleased we repeated for 2013.

He’s 49% blood and all the offspring I have photos of have his stamp. When I share photos with prospective buyers for in uteros, I send a pic of capone and each of the offspring in almost the same pose. The response is “wow, does he have a stamp!”
True, using a TB mare will get you a fine type, but breeding to a tank won’t necessarily give you a chunky horse. One of the fillies John VonDonagan (sp?) bred “cordelia” or “kona” from India by Argus, was 15.1 at 2, and was not a tank. India is massive and you Canadians might know her as the dam of Magnum (v’tropez).
A tall TB mare might get you some height (Capone’s gelding Cali is over 17H), I wouldn’t necessarily say you need to add blood to Capone - he’s more of a medium rather than large stallion (large being Wodan).
All the offspring I’ve dealt with (including 2 intact colts, 2 and 3 yr old) have been polite and easy to handle. They’re pretty regal so I could see if someone were inconsiderate that might be not suffer fools gladly, but seemed extremely poised with nice canters and balanced.

There is quite a bit of blood on her dam side, and Capone I really did tone that down. Not too much though, but enough to make a more ‘solid’ horse. He really did stamp her. Mama is 15.3 and she is going on 16.3 too…
Her little sister, who is a month old today, is a little spitfire. WAY more attitude. She is going to be a handful. Quite interesting to see how similar/dissimilar repeat crosses can be. This little one I can see going all the way. She has that look in her eye. Not the best photo’s:
