Caramelo was saved!

A horse was shown on TV stranded on a roof by the floods in Brazil. Luckily he had a good ending.

They had the gear they needed, and the know-how. What a great example of how to rescue a stranded large animal. It’s good to see that Caramelo has a chance to be ok now!

I opened a tab this morning and saw the poor guy on the roof and promptly teared up. At work, in front of my non-horsy colleagues. Immediately had to search to find the outcome, which I was relieved to find was a good one.

thank goodness!

Wow, that rescue was slick as snot! Very impressive. Caramelo got to take a nap through it and they took care of the rest. How ironic that the vet said he arrived severely dehydrated. “Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink.”
So glad he is okay.

Many horses often don’t voluntarily drink well when stressed.

Also the flood water may have had peculiar smells that discouraged drinking. As time goes on before flood waters recede, the water becomes increasingly toxic from all of the ground stuff that is being released into it. Especially around human habitations, which can include ruptures of containers for everything from septic to chemical.

The rescuers appear to be knowledgeable and well equipped. I assume they are staying out of the water themselves as much as they can, as is recommended during a flood.
