Cardento and Chacco Blue

How do you think he was difficult in the bridle? When seeing him ridden at the VDL Stallion show, he was an easy ride and they also did some dressage with him. Although the rider was not really a dressage rider. Mine has been really nice in the bridle, but I’d like to hear others?

The mare I am breeding now is a Calando I/Landjunker II 776 Mare. Calando I mares are known for needing good minded stallions. This mare has had 5 foals to date. I spoke to the previous owner about her Cardento, and she said it was so difficult she had to give her to another farm. Not good for sport or breeding. Non of the other 4 are like this she said. This is an example of a mare not to breed to Cardento. So I think mind matters.

Tim , I would say most of this coming from your mare. Calando I , although considered as one of the best broodmare sires in the world (example Carthago) , is notorious for making them small and very difficult. You didn’t get the small. The difficult may have come out in this baby.

The Capitol / Lord in Cardento is awesome…the next two coupled together Sacramento Song xx / Marconi is more than likely where a bit of this difficulty is coming from.

Kathy , you probably saw him at the end of his carreer after he had been schooled by one of the best riders in the world for years.

If you look at some of his competition video you can see he could be a little difficult. It’s hard for alot of folks to see…I mean look who’s riding him right ?

Peter said he was opinionated and very hard to adjust sometimes (tough in the bridle).

He was never Clinton (v. Corrado) tough , but certainly something to pay attention to when breeding. I like the horse alot and will be calling you for his frozen one day.

back in 2006 I rode three five years old in sweden and they were very quiet and easy to train plus everyone wanted them! they were very careful and scopey. equally I seen a three year old colt licensed this January in Belgian and when I spoke to the owners at his stable he was very pleasant and calm. I would agree that calando is where the hotness comes from and regards a horses’ mouths I have never come across a bred (who was schooled properly) that were all difficult in the mouth. you only have to look to youtube to see all the tremendous young jumpers by him who do not have hotness or mouth issues. I for one will bred from him at some stage as he will soon be recognised by all as a producer of jumpers…

Don´t know how I found this thread but since I´m located in Sweden where Cardento spent a long time I could give you some info. you have to forgive me if my english sometimes fail me.

We have loads of Cardento offsprings here and one thing they have in common is that they sure can jump. They are also (normally) an easy ride. So if Cardento had issues I´m pretty sure the offsprings are not normally that way. We have a youngster tour that ends up with finals in Falsterbo Horse Show and a lot of amateur riders ride their own horses. Last year a “Sire Competition” started in Falsterbo counting the 5-7 yr finals and for two years consecutive, Cardento has been the best sire.

When it comes to size it seems to go both ways. Lot´s of offsprings suiting girls but also the other kind.

This one came in 4th in the 5yr final (1,25m) with a junior rider last year in the finals:

The 7yr winner (1,40m) this year was also by Cardento, although ridden by a pro (Malin Baryard-Johnson):

Here´s another although in the states now, Cadence (Michelle Spadone rode him in VCfinal 2010):

OT: Fun to know: Number 5 Cisco is the same horse as above (now in VCrider Malin B-J stables), Number 13 Willem is now in Beat Mändlis stables and nr 31 Causa Rei in Jessica Kuertens… might be more of them but these three definite.
