I’ve finally purchased the hunt whip that has long been my heart’s desire. Stag handle, silver chased, four-inch braided thong. Now, how do I care for it? Should I oil it? It looks like it wants to be oiled!

There is open and sealed leather. Open leather needs regular conditioning. (I’d use a conditioner rather than oil.) But, I’m not sure about the closed leather that has a lacquer-like finish. I’m not sure if conditioning it does it good or harm, as the sealant probably prevents the conditioner coming in contact with the leather.
