Carrera VDL Offspring

Currently looking at a Carrera young horse out of a nice, larger (17.1) older school, heavier boned mare ( Tacorde x Evergreen).

I’m familiar Carerra himself and his approved sons. Also seen many of his offspring competing as young horses in Europe.

Anyone seen what he’s thrown ability wise out of heavier, older line mares in NA? Youngster is currently 19 months and 15.2. Free jumps with exceptional form on his first time and appears quite laid back temperament wise.

I’m not savvy enough on breeding to answer your question with real detail, but I do have 7 y/o by Carrera VDL who I’ve had for almost 3 years now. (Breeding is here if you’re curious: https://www.horsetelex.nl/horses/pedigree/1953194/mastermind-es)

You mentioning laid back jumped out at me because that is what I have observed with anyone else I’ve talked to who has one. Mine is extremely laid back - like showed in the leadline as a 6 y/o in the middle of winter before his “real” classes. Ability wise I’m guessing he’ll be most comfortable at 1.30m, but could do the 1.40m with a better rider than me…I am definitely the limiting factor in this relationship. But by far he stands out as one of the most ammy-friendly horses I’ve worked with. I’ll definitely be watching this thread with interest!

Pic of him now because I can’t resist.

Thank you for the info and what a lovely pic! Looks like you have great breeding on the dam’s side as well :slightly_smiling_face:

I too have a Carrera VDL. Here is his pedigree

Of course I’m partial, but I think he’s one of the best jumpers in the world. If someone else was on his back he’d be a World Cup horse but alas he’s mine so 1.30s and never ending applesauce is more our speed.

That being said, I have looked very closely at Carrera offspring and honestly haven’t seen too many like him although Rel6’s looks very nice!

Here is my boy “Jupiter”

Another lovely horse! He sure stamps them well  Love seeing pics of great offspring.

This youngster I’m looking a tall socked, belly patch, flaxen mane and tail chestnut. So completely different look color wise.

Do you find any of the Baloubet du Rouet personality coming out at all over courses or does your handsome guy tend to throw towards the Cardento side more?

Mine is incredibly spooky, sharp, and quirky. But he usually channels all this for good. When he doesn’t, well… he can be naughty but only in the funniest of ways.

That definitely sounds like the Baloubet side making an appearance!

This is where I’m wondering if the larger/heavier, older school lines of the dam of this guy will help. I’ve seen quite a few Carrera’s out of bloodier mares and they have some pep.

Thank you @RavtoadOH!

@grzywinskia your boy is lovely - what a jump. It is fascinating to hear you describe his personality as spooky and sharp since mine is the opposite. If I could change anything, I would give mine a bit more blood.

Forgot to update this, I did end up purchasing this guy and he arrived on Dec 17th. Fabulous horse. Still very young but has a wonderful temperament and moves beautifully. He was only free jumped one time as part of my pre purchase request, but showed excellent form. In the awkward long yearling stage and quite fuzzy right now, so please mind the photos

Very happy with him so far.
