One of my horses is turning 20 in a couple weeks and I wanted to make her a carrot cake (no icing of course). My mom even has a recipe with sunflower seeds in it. I’ve read many times that it’s ok to feed horses baking, like bread, muffins and cake, even seen horses eat pizza crust before. I’m not going to feed her a ton and upset her GI tract or anything. But just wondering if anyone actually has done this? And do most horses like it? (I got her a likit for X-mas one year and she wouldn’t touch it and my riding horse will spit out sugar cubes )
Here ya go: Second post down

I went to a cupcake place this morning and bought a carrot cake cupcake for my miracle filly who turns three today. She wouldn’t get anywhere near it! I tried my other horse who took one bite, refused a second bite and drooled for an hour because he wouldn’t shut his mouth all the way. Maybe buy a cupcake as a trial run before making a whole cake?
There is one horse in our barn that gets a carrot cake for his birthday every year. It is from one of the best bakeries in town. Chester has a lot of people show up for his birthday cake. He enjoys his piece of cake as do some of the other horses that get pieces.
Thanks. I just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the recipe merrygoround, I’m not a great cook but that seems easy enough.

I wasn’t going to feed her the whole thing. I’ll bring some extra treats that I know she likes just in case though. Hopefully she likes it (there’s nothing that makes you feel worse than someone refusing your homemade gift) but if not I’ll make some icing and my human family members and I will eat the rest lol.
Definitely use the homemade horse recipe! I’m going to need to try that myself.
I went through a phase where I bought my guys little mini carrot cakes from the bakery on their birthdays. They also wouldn’t touch them-- not even my chow hound who eats anything!
I had a horse who loved human carrot cake, especially the cream cheese frosting. He got one every year for his birthday.
Play it safe & just celebrate with her favorite treat
Buy a carrot cupcake or bake and expect to share with human barn friends.
I got a TWH and former owner sent a half-full container of “his favorite” carrot treats.
Got him home and he would have nothing to do with them.
My other horse was happy to help & chowed on them.
My current Herd of 3 are all total hos for Dollar Tree gingersnaps.
I tried some on a friend’s herd of 8 - to hopefully give her an alternative to the pricy German horse cookies she bought.
No dice, not a one would touch the cheap treat.
Heads up that this is an old thread that was bumped by a spammer.
