So recently started doing carrot stretches with some of my lesson horses. I flex their heads to the left and right (for a carrot) and then under their belly like asking for a bow. One mare’s back audibly pops when she does the bow stretch. Is that okay? Just want to make sure I’m not screwing something up. Its all her doing the reaching for the carrot, I’m not manipulating her spine manually in any way. Is that a sign she needs to see a chiropractor?
My horse’s neck “cracks” almost 75% of the time when I do carrot stretches. Sometimes he will bend his neck to my feet when standing still undersaddle and it will crack. I’ve always thought of it as being similar to someone cracking their neck or back.
But that is a good question. My horse has a chiro appointment in 2 weeks, so I’ll ask her since I am now curious about it as well. I can report back if you don’t get an answer here.
