My husband and I have a two horse gooseneck trailer and are hoping to take our horse and her cart to other locations to drive. (Look for another post on driving instructors)
We are trying to figure out how we can transport horse & cart, at the same time.
We’d love to hear how others handle this. Hubby is trying to design a way to put the cart behind the trailer in a similar fashion to how hunters attach a dog box to a truck.
I a thinking we need to have a second trailer (that screaming you hear is the checkbook) with room for horse and for cart.
Thanks for suggestions.
Sue
Going way back to my driving days, but I had someone haul my horse and 4-wheel cart to a show about three hours away. He used a big stock type trailer, put the vehicle in front, then a the divider panel, then the horse.
It worked fine, though now that I’m older and wiser, I wonder about the weight distribution, as the horse clearly outweighed the vehicle…On the other hand, this man was an old time horseman.
Alternative suggestion: since there are two of you going you could consider a small trailer for the vehicle that you could tow behind a second vehicle!!
What kind of cart and what are the dimensions and configuration of your trailer?
We had this made. http://s637.photobucket.com/albums/uu91/horsegeeks/Cart%20carrier/ We then could haul one cart on the carrier and the second in the front of the horses with the shafts over the gooseneck. It works beautifully. The password for the photobucket album is geocoins.

Our cart is a Frey Sprint and the trailer is a 2 horse gooseneck whith dressiing room. I will have to mesure for exact dimensions.
Putting the cart in the front is not an option because of the dressing room…

Cart Transport Suggestions
Thanks, Horsegeeks, this is what my husband is trying to design. Where did you have it made?

Thanks, Horsegeeks, this is what my husband is trying to design. Where did you have it made?[/QUOTE]At a local (and very good) welder. Our trailer is an Adams and the factory suggested it shouldn’t be attached to the door because of the weight so we had it affixed to the upper frame. It swings out for quick access to the horses. It looks close to the ground in the pictures but that is because the trailer is jacked up in the front.
Horsegeeks, that is BY FAR the best cart carrier I have ever seen. My big problem is trapping the horses in the trailer and I never would have thought to make it swing like that. Absolutely fabulous.

Check out my carrier. It fits my aluminum BP. I have seen this designed used on goosenecks as well. It is made by a gentleman in Brooksville FL. I think they run about 1000 bucks now. Mine is adjustable to carry either my metal woods cart or my fancy wooden road cart.
I have done all sorts of things along the way. Did the tray thing behind the trailer but I like this a lot better.,
What I like about Cartfall’s is the width looks easily adjustable for different width of carts
Thanks Cartfall. Did you have yours made from your own design?

No, can;t take credit for this. It is the design and work of Kerry Dignan of Brookesville Fl
From an earlier thread on same subject—
We call them buggy cart racks for horse trailers
We were wondering were people found out that we made the cart racks for horse trailers and if you google long enough you can find your answer. We make a half rack for single doors and if you are in the Florida area we can make full racks (there is just no way to ship the big ones). My link will show you pictures of both if you are interested. If anyone has any questions they are more than welcome to contact us. We have had several people contact us from this web site so I thought I should join to make it easier for people to get the info they were looking for.
Thanks Susanne and Kerry

Love those PVC harness stands. Did you make them?

Yes we made them. They each hold 2 sets of harness
We have 2 horses, 2 carts, 2 trucks, 2 trailers and 2 people. LOL.
We have a 2 horse straight load bumper pull with no room for anything but the horses. So we have a flat-bed ATV trailer that we load the vehicles on to. Makes getting everywhere twice as hard and tiring, and twice the gas expense, but we have twice the fun too lol.
Haven’t gone too many places this year, but next year I’m hoping to do several shows with the 2 and haul out to a few trail places as well.
