Casting tape and 24 hr turnout

I’m considering the Soft Rider “pad/shoe” manufactured by Soft Ride. I would have my farrier cast them on, as they aren’t recommended to be glued on. Any experiences with casting tape and mud seeping through for a horse on 24 hr turnout?

You can turn out in mud with it. It’s not ideal, but you can do it. The cast itself will be fine, but over time, the hoof will start developing the problems you expect from moisture, so I wouldn’t want it to be a very long term solution.

Cast material doesn’t last too long on the hoof. It will wear out in a couple weeks (which gives you a chance to clean the hoof and address any thrush). The traction also sucks. But it’s very handy in certain applications! I always keep it on hand.
