Cat breeds--help me choose?

Umm go to the shelter?
If you read her post she said she is getting 2 older ones from the shelter first. She also want a specific breed one after that.

SO UMMM… she is

I intend to adopt a pair of older cats as well, as I posted in the op.

Well, this spring I found what appears to be a Bengal/Manx mix (she looks like a Bengal with no tail). That’s the closest to an exotic cat I’ve ever had and I will say she is really a character.

Havana browns are pretty cool cats too - like Siamese but less intense.

My favorite cats are the older giant orange male cats. Not a breed but a type!

I’d definitely stay away from any wild crosses. And any of the very brachiocephalic, but that one is a personal preference - I just don’t think it’s ethical to routinely breed such deformities.

Ragdoll!

Fiance and I got our first one in June and love her so much we are getting a second one in December. Incredibly social, cuddly, beautiful, and big. Also hair is not really an issue, they are low shedders and I still haven’t had to brush this cat once (doesn’t tangle). Their coats are like long rabbit fur.

I highly recommend them :D
Ragdolls are my breed of choice… but low shedding?! Compared to what? Running a hair salon in your house?

Lol, such great information–thanks guys!
My former ragdoll (now he and his bros live w my bff from grade school) sheds non stop–hence his name–Dust Bunny–aka Buns of Dust.
I know I love ragdolls, tonkinese, apple head and wedge head meezers, Burmese and almost any blue eyed cat, actually.

I am SO excited—way more about getting and having cats than the new house, lol!

I guess compared to my last long-haired cat…I am still pulling his hair out of my furniture and off of clothes and he ran away in May!

Out of all the cats we get in the clinic, Burmese are my favorites. They are short haired, cute, and have personality. Their meows are the cutest, as well.

I do love Bengals. They are super cute and fun, however they are wild little sh*^%. They are sweet, but they have HUGE personalities. They are also loud, though. It’s cool because they will carry a conversation, however it can be pretty annoying.

Siamese or Havana Brown…both very doglike and I currently have one of each. Siamese named Lily and the Havana is named Stogie (well, they are named after cigars and a stogie is a small cigar.

 a much better description than mine.

Japanese Bobtail! Best cats I ever had. And the calico’s are so pretty. They are loaded with personality and affection. I would love to have another but the budget won’t allow it any longer.

See what kind of pure bred cats are available at the shelter before deciding on a specific breed; you may end up getting all the cats you need/want from the shelter. Any breed is worthy but mostly it is the personality of the individual cat. Along with the two older cats, get a couple of kittens, they bring so much energy and fun to a house!

On a side note, since you had talked about getting a tiny home, if you did, you might want to limit the number of cats you get to just two. However, if you bought a big house, by all means more cats!

I had a cat walk up to my house last year near Christmas, hence the name Noel. But check him out - as far as I can tell he really IS himalayan, and I adore him!
Plus the grey cat we found in the manure pile at the barn as a wee kitten :).

Have fun with your new babies!

Beauties!

Bump----
Ok i have my foster application in at the local rescue and am waiting for a call. It will be kitten season very soon!
Meanwhile i am increasingly enamoured of the various Rex cats and am continuing to look at them, siamese and ragdolls on petfinders.
I sent an email to JoBara Devon Rex who bred that flame point Rex i met at the cat show last week, i may treat myself to a kitten someday!
A mixed household of royalty and street kitties suits me just fine, lol.

Bobbie and Jade (the mother/daughter team of Jobara cattery) are friends of mine! Bobbie is the president of our local CFA club. You absolutely cannot do better than a Jobara Devon. If you need more information, let me know

Another vote for Siamese. They’re as close to a dog as can be without actually being a dog. My cat greets me at the door right away. My dog will come downstairs to greet me if she can pry herself from her nest of blankets. He sheds some but no more than a ‘normal’ cat. He’s the noisiest, most personable and borderline clingy cat I’ve ever met. We got him through a dog rescue (listed as a courtesy to his owner who was moving and didn’t want him…), but he was originally from a breeder. I have no idea what cattery bred him, but he was mucho dinero as a kitten.

And because a cat post is nothing without photos…

He’s…something

I’ve always wanted a Siamese. However, I adopted 3 shelter cats and also a brown tabby that someone dumped here. They are a lot of work, since the older three are 13 now and have set notions about the way they want the house run.

We have all rescues but did end up getting a maine coon cat kitten recently. He is amazing. They are the labrador retrievers of cats! He’s so cool. Any kitty will be lucky to be a part of your household. Keep us updated!

OMGosh!! please let them know i am totally in love with little Potato–and is that REALLY his name, lol?!
He was the flame point blue eyed little one who begged me to take him in my arms and cuddle him and i swear it took all i had to walk away from his cage.

This was at the Fancy Feline Show in Burlington Vermont two weeks ago.
