Cat grass

indoor kitty needs some greens to nibble on.

But I am not willing to pay 3 bucks a small pot.
Any sources for food grade seeds, like for wheatgrass, etc?

Look in the produce section of the grocery store. They have the wheatgrass sprouts for a lot cheaper than the “cat grass” sold at pet stores. You can also buy birdseed that is mostly millet and sprout it.

LOL, it’s still high!
What is that anyhow? I am pretty sure ‘cat grass’ is not a botanical name.

I wonder what that cheap bird seed contains, the one for the garden birds. The fat red seeds throw me off…maybe my budgies won’t mind sharing though…

When I said bird seed, I meant the kind for pet birds like parakeets. The cheap kind of that is the best, since it contains mostly millet and wheat grass seed. The kind for wild birds wouldn’t work since it contains a lot of grain sorghum, especially the cheaper kinds. I don’t think grain sorghum would be good for kitties to nibble on. Also, this time of year, Walmart, Home Depot and the other garden stores often have catnip plants for sale rather reasonably. My kitties love nibbling on the 'nip.

I went to a garden center and bought some winter rye seed for my guys. It was less than a dollar a pound and although it gets rootbound quite easily, did very well in summer and winter for me.

The cats liked it and it was cheap.
