Cat-in-the-Bag -- Worst Idea Ever! LOL

Have you seen this new product?

Touted as a great new idea. Transport, medicate, trim claws. I tried to watch the video but was laughing too hard.

If a cat can get his head through an opening, he can get his whole body through. He might stay in this bag about as long as it takes to carry him out the front door – then he’d be out and off down the street (or out into the street!)

Even if it kept him in the bag, can you imagine trying to clean it up if he “had an accident”? Or deliberately made a statement?

No, thank you very much, I will continue to use my tried-and-true cat carriers that contain the whole cat, have no holes they can their heads (and bodies) through, and would be easy to clean if my cats ever made that necessary (they never have, bless their little souls! :)).

Yeah, I agree - any hole you can get your head thru - the rest of the bod will follow. Plus, it better be made from some teflonized super denim so the claws won’t get you. I’m just imagining the clean up if a “statement” was made or an accident had - yuck, the leakage…

Video is pretty funny.

I’ve seen those commercials and wondered about them. Also wondered how long they took in filming to find such relaxed, compliant cats. I could donate a few for filming who would not look like that, and yes, probably would escape. Definitely wouldn’t be happy and photogenic while in there. Must admit, the cleanability hadn’t occurred to me.

I sure wouldn’t use one.

Cats? No freakin’ way!

However, I found that the plastic-y feed bags (like hay cubes come in) make an awesome goose/turkey carrier. Cut a corner off, poke the head though the hole, bundle the rest of the body inside, and tie the bag closed under the feet. They stay calm, and the bag just gets tossed if it gets, er, dirty! Lol!

We have a cat who prefers to travel by pillowcase. Loose, she panics- carrier, she panics. Stuff her in a pillowcase, happy cat. She even puts herself in there.

There was something similar to that 30 years ago when I was a vet tech. But it fastened with velcro. You could adjust it so that you could just pull out a leg for a blood draw. We called it the “cat straitjacket”.
There was one cat who was so horrible that any time any of the techs saw her coming in, we would all run and hide. She bit everybody in the clinic. All the vets hated her. The practice owner’s money hungry wife would not drop her as a client. So one day, he told her that SHE could hold the cat. They had to take her to the ER.
So this new young vet decides that he will just put horrid cat in the straitjacket.
She bit him, 2 techs, (not me, I had enough sense to hide), and trashed an entire treatment room before they got her restrained. Practice owner threw the staitjacket in the trash.

I think I would need a ‘cat in the bag’ just to get my cats INTO ‘the cat in a bag’.

Oh, yeah, my Siamese would let me put them into that, especially the one that hates being handled and will defend against all attempts as necessary. NOT.
