My Muck boots have been peed on. They didn’t smell great to begin with but now I can barely be in the car with them. Help!
White vinegar and baking soda will neutralize the smell. Just put some white vinegar in a small spray bottle, spray the boots liberally. Then sprinkle baking soda on them. Let sit (it will foam up) for an hour, then rinse with warm water.
Are you sure they were peed on? Mine always smell like cat pee when I sweat in them, it has something to do with the materials used. Years ago people were complaining about Nike shoes smelling like cat pee when they got sweaty, turns out it was the materials they were using. I know a cat has never peed in my tall muck boots, but they smell that way. I wish they could figure out a solution to that, it’s not pleasant.
There are several products that are very good at neutralizing cat urine. If the boots have the soft “foam” uppers (like mine), that will be very difficult to clean. Take a trip to the Petsmart or Petco or whatever you have and check out the cat section. I’ve used the Clorox Urine Remover to much success on carpet and tile though, so that’s a cheap first choice. It’s great for puppies and their accidents!!
Try Odoban.
My sincere condolencses…RIP muckies
The cleaning stuff that Jackson Galaxy sells, it really does neutralize the smell without adding more smell, it’s odorless.
Douse in vinegar and let dry.
Thanks for the ideas. I know it was cat pee because I left them on the porch overnight and there was a puddle beside them in the morning and I got it on my hand when I picked them up (TMI, sorry). It’s been almost a week and they still stink. My next plan is going to be to wash them with Dawn dish soap in the wash rack at the barn, then take them home and try to saturate the one that got hit with Nature’s Miracle and see if that helps. Based on the smell of my socks, I think it got inside, too… I’ll be really sad if I have to trash them but right now I can’t bring them in the house or in the car!
A cat peed on my helmet many years ago. I swore I’d never put that thing on my head again, but finances didn’t allow me to replace it at the time. I washed it, then sprayed with a vinegar/water mix, and it helped, but was not enough. Exasperated and desperate, I just poured straight vinegar on it and left it to dry. Last ditch effort. Totally worked. And that thing was on my HEAD, not all the way down to my feet, so I would have noticed if it hadn’t!
One of my 2 cats (both neutered males) had taken to painting all of my walls, furniture, and anything else he could reach. I was horrified when I got a UV light. He never did that in all of the 9 years I’ve had him and didn’t when I got him a buddy (they love each other and did so right away) but when a strange black cat started showing up outside both of my cats went nuts and the older one (9) started his wall painting, as well as the curtains out in the kitty room. I couldn’t keep up with it.
My cats are indoor cats so it’s not like the stray is actually going to get in here but they both hate him (and he is weird…my neighbor’s cats hate him too). I’ve tried cleaning with a pet urine enzyme and then spraying some “No More Spraying” but that hasn’t worked.
He’s a sneaky little bugger too; he waits until he thinks I’m not looking and then does it. He’s learned that the minute I see him backing his butt up to something he gets yelled at. It wasn’t until I found “Cat Spraying No More” that I was able to finally get rid of this tiresome behavior. Now my house nor my ropes don’t smell like a litter box anymore
Here’s a link the their site if you’re interested in checking it out, I highly recommend this: http://nomorecatpee.com
Peroxide. It really is best at actually chemically change the odor instead of disguising it
Should we be suspicious that a newbie poster shows up, resurrects two zombie threads on cat pee, and posts a link to a miracle cure?
I’m going with SPAM… Norton says the web address that @Jamie11 posted has “unauthorized URL modification”. That can’t be good.
I have reported.
