Cat pro-biotics: do they exist?

Title says it all.

I have a cat with a sissy of a belly. He has decided to have the runs because I decided to feed him grain-free food.

Now I have been brought to my knees and I have to change things up.

Any suggestions?

Raw goats milk?

Yes, they do exist. My vet always has me give some after one of my cats has a course of antibiotics. The brand she suggests is VetriScience Vetri-Mega Probiotic. They come in a capsule that you can pull apart and put in the food, if you’d rather not pill the cat.

Thank you!

And I have literally been brought to my knees…… by the task of cleaning up after the cat.

I want a solution…… really, really bad.

Floragen from Walgreens. I think we originally bought it for one of the dogs but I’ve emptied the capsule into a can of cat food and have given it to the group when someone was sick but we didn’t know who.

My favorite is Forti-flora by Purina. I’ve tried a number of brands and it is not only effective but also quite palatable to everyone so far.

My vet advises Proviable DC.

Forti Flora. Single dose packets of powder. Available online pet websites.

Best pricing that I’ve seen for Forti-flora is on amazon.

I LOVE the Proviable concept. But of my 4, only would eat the capsules and no one would touch the tube.

Forti-flora is the best stuff!

Forti-Flora was a true blessing for my IBD kitty during the bad times. Some folks recommend human probiotics for cats (e.g. acidophilus capsules), but Forti-Flora stimulated her appetite while helping with digestion, so I was willing to overlook the possibility that it wasn’t the healthiest possible product.

I hope your kitty’s GI issues get cleared up quickly! After a dozen years with an IBD cat I know how how tiresome the kitty cleanup can be!

You might also try a carrageenan-free canned food. Do a google search. My 18 year old kitty has been on Natural Balance canned food for the better part of the past 10 years. For the majority of that time she has had very loose stools. I recently switched her to a carrageenan free food and her diarrhea went away immediately. She does well on Nature’s Variety canned food and the carrageenan-free Natural Balance Platefuls pouch formula. She also does really well on the Primal Freeze Dried formula raw pet food cubes, but it’s WILDLY expensive and the smell of it is repulsive to me.

they don’t have g.I. issues but I give both my dog and cat a little taste of plain, whole milk yogurt (organic Stonyfields Farm)pretty often and can’t help but think it is good for them. They both really really love it.

Canned pumpkin is good for loose bowels (cat or dog) if you can get the cat to eat it. If cat resists try putting a small amount on a paw, and the cat is supposed to lick it off, then love it!

Of course all us pet parents know how that goes… :dead:

I open the capsule and sprinkle it on top of their breakfast. Done.
