Cat proof gates/divider/ new door ideas needed

My Felv positive cat is currently being held in the bedroom in isolation from the other cats. The problem is he is a big boy and my attempts at playing laser tag usually result in him sliding into the walls. I am thinking of trying to add a divider/new door so he can have access to the hallway and home office and not spend the rest of his life locked in a single room. But in order to give him more room, I need a cat proof gate/divider/new door. The hallway opening is pretty wide, about 5 ft wide and 11 ft tall? Or so… I’m wondering how to go about making a new doorway just for him. Obviously it can’t be something he can climb over.

How nice is your house? We had a similar situation heading to a front door I didn’t want the cats to get out and we tacked in a screen door. A nice screen door with some chicken wire edging to make it fit. It actually kind of worked with the house “style” but when we took it out we had to patch where the 1 by 1 inlay had been on the walls. Crazy talk, I know, but it worked for us, even sold the house for a profit afterward ha ha Maybe this will give you something to read while you get better suggestions!

They make custom width bifold closet doors if you have enough side wall space.

Also look for accordion or folding doors ( think 1970s if you are old enough). I got a set from Lowe’s that I used on the laundry closet. It formerly had bifold doors but the closet depth itself is sized for the older washer and dryer sizes so I had to take them off years ago when I upgraded to front load. After about a decade of staring at the ugly doorless space I finally thought about accordion doors. Duh! But just one would work great across a hall and I think if you added another magnet closure at the bottom of the door it would be cat secure (mine just has a magnet closure at the handles, but the door attached to a channel so it’s easy to see how you could add another magnet/adhesive steel plate

Here an example of one (white), but I’ve seen them in many colors

A friend has a lovely wrought iron door as a barrier to keep the dogs in the kitchen area and out of the rest of the house.

You could frame the hallway to fit a standard door and put a garden door in, I have seen mostly glass, frosted glass or decorated glass. Of frame and custom build a larger glass door.
