Cats and rawhide chews?

Our 4month old house kittens chew everything. Can I give them rawhide chews? You wouldn’t believe what comes out in their poop. Shoe lace pieces, wire, I try to cat proof the house and they find something else.

UG, as I wrote this, they just chewed thru DH’s ear bud wire, probably while he was lying there trying to fall asleep!

Double UG, it came out in the litter pan, all 3 inches. These cats are lucky to still be alive.

I don’t see why you couldn’t try. This phase should end soon, there just teething.

I would maybe find an alternative to rawhide though. It doesn’t digest well in dogs, so there are likely similar issues with kitties (better than earbuds though, haha). If they get too big of a piece, it can cause impaction issues. I’ve tried to get my kitties things to chew on, as my little one adores chewing wires (ACK!), but I can’t seem to find anything she’s allowed to chew on that she wants to chew on…

Sorry, that wasn’t helpful, haha.

I buy the dried chicken strips for my cats - The big ones they sell for dogs.

I also give them raw bones, and I recently tried the kitty kong with frozen stuffing. That wasn’t tough enough, but I’m going to get one of the small dog ones and try again, because it did keep them busy, right up until one figured out he could just chew the darn thing in half.

A couple of mine like to chew on wood, so for the sake of my furniture I try to keep them busy!

ETA: My youngest is 2, the oldest 17, and they all like to chew stuff up. I wouldn’t count on it just being a teething phase.

You could try, but my dogs sometimes get rawhide sticks and the cats show no interest. I don’t think they even know what it is. And they make no bones about trying to steal stuff from the dogs, like biscuits, if they want it. The youngest is in the phase of demolishing toy mice–I would just make sure you are stocked up on appropriate cat toys.

Gaited- Wow! I’ve never had a cat chew on stuff after they stopped teething.

OP maybe these crunchy kitty treats?? My cats also seem to have develloped a taste for the Hartz Clean & Crunch dog bones;)

My vet recommended dental chews (made for cats or small dogs) to help prevent plaque build-up.

I’d also get some Bitter Apple spray for electrical wires, etc.

My cat steals the bully sticks from the dogs and chews on those. She loves the dried chicken strips too and will sit on command with the dog pack to get one.

I have a chewer as well. cat toy on a string? she’ll chew through the string in a heartbeat. LOVES to chew the strings on the blinds - argh.

I give her those little pig ear strips. She usually doesn’t finish them, but she certainly give it the old college try.

funny thing is that she abhores the CET cat chews. My other cat, however, loves them and will snarf them up, but she’s not a chewer normally.
