My supervisor makes sure I fill hay nets appropriately and add enough shavings for her liking.

She likes to sleep in fresh shavings after I’ve bedded the stalls.

This morning, Little Bit was in the corner of the bathroom floor, and Pharaoh was on the little book-holder/small table thing next to her. His tail was dangling. She suddenly started to play with his tail! That’s the first time I have ever seen her come close to playing with another cat. Of course, Pharaoh turned and gave her a friendly swipe back; he likes to play. That set her off. She hadn’t expected him to join the game. The episode ended with great growling and snarling (on her part) while he maintained the other cats’ attitude of, “You are so weird; I don’t get it.” Still, great progress for her to even start to consider another cat or a part thereof as a toy.

The one and only Rascal this morning.

After the fantastic shot of Rascal above on Saturday, which was taken with me holding the phone up at arm’s length and shooting blind (she’s about seven feet up), I saw an opportunity this morning to get Cotton on the porch rail with sunrise through the eastern sugar maple behind him. Cotton, unlike Rascal, is poseable (if it involves climbing), so a much easier shot, totally set up. However, I took several takes, trying to get the angle on the sun just right to please me, and he finally got impatient with it.

I see the sun cooperated!

I stripped off the couch and chair covers because it occurred to me I haven’t washed them in a few years. I could probably fur another cat. I’ll do them in the commercial washers in town when I get a chance. Of course, the cats had to inspect. This is the same couch that they’ve lived with for years.

Old Sarge went along with me on my walk yesterday. Probably the oldest of the farm (guesstimating on Little Bit’s age; she’s at least 12). Sarge first started hanging around in 2010. He was fully developed then with massive jowls. His head is huge. The vet when he was caught and taken in for his appointment agreed that he was a mature tom. I figure he’s in his upper teens now. Like an old retired gentleman, he isn’t doing as much lately and takes more naps, but he’s still moving great and seems to feel well.

The welcoming committee when I got home yesterday. Clockwise from Cotton, we have Sarge, Rascal, and Satin.

My ever-helpful assistants helping me untangle and wind a clothesline.

Not sure of the cause, but he died in his sleep sometime during this morning.

This is one thread I always check when I’m on the Forums. I am so sorry to hear that Atticus is gone. At least it sounds like it was a peaceful, gentle death and he didn’t suffer.
