I fed the outdoor critters in a downpour this morning.
From my Facebook memories today. This was 11 years ago. Mom and Tenuto.
The stranger is still hanging around. Still wary of me. I’m starting to be able to distinguish from Bagheera at first glance. Identical coloring and (non) markings, but the stranger is skinnier, slinkier. Bagheera is very solid. He isn’t overweight at all, but he is one solid muscle. He really looks like a miniature jungle cat. Of course, this one may have just fallen on hard times recently. Was on the porch with my inner circle this morning, and all of them obviously were acquainted. He’ll come around to the idea of me.
Rascal.
I’m so grateful for this cat. She has always been antisocial and aloof, per Cat Lady, a one-person cat. When I started working at Cat Lady’s, Rascal was the one cat that didn’t accept me. Absolutely untouchable, maintaining her distance and dignity like Queen Victoria. Cat Lady said she never liked anyone else, so usual reaction.
Then one day, six months later, out of the blue, Rascal decided I was okay. A month later, Cat Lady got sick and died. God’s timing. If she hadn’t accepted me, I never could have caught this cat when collecting Cat Lady’s cats. Rascal would have disdained traps.
Still antisocial and aloof, but a two-person cat. I’m honored to be her second person.
I’ve admired Rascal ever since you started telling us about her. She sounds like quite a character, discerning and keeping her own counsel.
Little Bit
Psalm (on desk), Mystery, Solo, and Pharaoh (on bed)
Bagheera, Satin, and Rascal on the floor, Cotton on the chair, Sarge on the rail
Clockwise from top left: Psalm on bookcase, Solo under Prayer at Valley Forge, Little Bit on couch, Pharaoh in floor on rug, Brio in floor (white markings).
Little Bit was on the table this morning, which I don’t mind in itself. However, that does lead to potential encounters with the Second Feline Household Commandment. I had turkey bacon this morning, and she wanted it, too, so we had to have a discussion. I won. She may lack social skills, but there’s nothing wrong with her intelligence.
We’re having quite a thunderstorm. I’ve already lost internet several times, and while losing all power hasn’t happened that often, that’s been in tonight as well. I decided phooey, time to stop attempting real work on my job and just give up for tonight. Weather says three more hours of this.
So I shut down the computer and started the preliminaries to going to bed. I was scooping litter boxes and went into Little Bit’s safe room. When I turned the light on, she was on the floor in the corner, sitting bolt upright and watching the impressive lightning show outside. I gave her a reassuring comment and started doing that box.
And then, she came up to me, walked across the room between, stopped at my ankle, and leaned into it. She stood there for a full minute, still watching the window. I had no food or treats at the moment, and she knew it, could clearly see what I was doing. She just wanted some consoling on the weather.
She came up to me. No food or treats involved. She came up to me.
Six months I’ve been working with this cat now, one of the most challenging I’ve ever dealt with.
Who-hoo!
Who-hoo indeed!
As I was leaving for church this morning, Rascal was in the big silver maple.
I love this tree (and the cat!). The tree has such a neat trunk and character to it.
This one amuses me every year when it comes up on memories. My Christmas cactus.
And who is that hiding in the jungle? That’s hilarious.
This was Cory. It’s from many, many years ago.
What a handsome cat!
I need to make the bed. Note, by the way, exactly how much of it is my territory anyway. I have about a third.
Little Bit cracks me up at times. I was just getting her breakfast, and as I picked up her saucer, she swatted at it. At the saucer, carefully not at me. She knows that any aggression toward me will make me just stop breakfast preparations for 30 seconds and stand there. Scratching the giver of food does not make the food come more quickly. We’ve had that discussion. However, she couldn’t resist a few swats at the other side of the saucer today. Apparently, she’s hungry this morning.
