cats vs smell of alcohol

For those of you that want to keep cats away from something, I suggest the smell of alcohol from something like wine, or liquor. None of my cats particularly like the smell of citrus, however one of them hates the smell of alcohol.

The last time I showed her some wine to smell, she literally ran away from it. Is my cat just weird because she gets to be locked in my room at night, or is this true for all cats?

before I forget, here is a pic of Peaches, she who hates the smell of alcohol and is 15 years old.

These are fairly old ones, if someone can tell me how to attach I can put up newer pictures.

you have to buy a premium membership to attach directly.

My cats don’t care much for alcohol, but they don’t run away from it, I don’t think…

it’s possible that at the time she was simply annoyed with me for always showing her my drink to smell.

Here are some newer pictures of her, taken with my cell phone a week or two ago.

Why does she get locked up in my room at night you ask? Because of these 2, Simon the colorpoint and Misty the grey one. At first it seemed to be Simon bothering her the most, but now Misty seems to bother her more, and Simon bothers Misty too.

When I don’t lock Peaches up at night, she gets to peeing on the kitchen floor which is linoleum. I believe Simon and Misty are about 3 years old.

What a pretty girl!

I think disliking alcohol differs from cat to cat. My Siamese, Buster, accompanied me and my sister on a vacation once. The first night, my sister had a glass of wine and between sips, set the glass on the floor next to the sofa. We heard lapping sounds, and there was Buster, drinking the wine as fast as he could. Sis put the wine out of his reach right away!

My mother has a cat who loves beer. And one of mine will occasionally sneak a sip of white wine if left on the coffee table. But maybe they just take after me…

Both my male cats recoil from booze, but my calico female will stick her whole head in the glass. She also frequently opens the liquor cabinet doors and goes in there to nap amongst the martini glasses in the back. She’s basically the slutty sorority drama queen of our cats, so we figure it’s par for the course.
