Oh, and if you enjoy showing horses, but think showing dogs is, well, dumb, you must remember some people show CATS and I think that is just plain nuts. Not to mention people who show goldfish. It’s true! I saw it on CBS Sunday Morning!
The “Caution! Show Dogs On Board” stickers have always annoyed me. Not because they’re pretentious, but because they suggest that a show dog is valuable, and obliquely suggest that non show dogs are worth less. Not a nice sentiment, at all, and totally unneccessary. Why not just “I Brake For Dog Shows” or “My Show Dog Loves Mud!” if you need the inform everyone behind you about your canine hobby?
I personally wouldn’t “advertise” that I have a show dog on board…that’s just asking for somebody to break into your vehicle and attempt to steal the dog! It just screams “valuable dog inside” to me.

Kinda like people with Apple logo stickers on their car. “Steal my iPod! Steal my MacBook!” :lol:
I’m just not on board with any “on board” stickers, I suppose. Now… a “Beware of…” sign, on the other hand… “Beware of Poofy Dog!” :lol: :lol:
I do, almost ever weekend now that I’ve retired my eventer. And before i got into horses after college I was the equivalent of a ‘working student’ for professional handlers and judges (of show dogs).
I don’t think it’s pretentious, I think people are just proud of their dogs, show or not. No different than any other horse, dog, or child bumper sticker.

THIS. I have two who walked away unharmed when my SUV was totaled because they were secured in crates.
And even though I do show dogs, I wouldn’t put a Caution Show Dogs sticker on my car.

When I had my first show dog I worked full time and it was hard to justify devoting an entire weekend for 5 minutes in the ring. I put five points on him and let a local handler finish him.
Then I had kids, quit my job, bought a farm, and the kids were riding with lesson barns…eventually we showed a few times, got our own trailer, etc.
And then got another show puppy. I laughed the first time we went to a show. I bathed him in the tub, put his crate in the back of my mini van, packed “all his stuff” (one bag) and off we went. Compared to horse shows, dog shows are so easy! (And you don’t have to worry about falling off).
Although we did see a guy completely wipe out last Saturday in the ring. I felt bad for him.

Your observation does make you go . Horse showing is valued on COTH but dog showing is laughed at? It is the same motivating factors/type of people. The two are so parallel! OB is like dressage, agility is like eventing, earthdog is like foxhunting, breed is like well, breed (maybe with a cup of hunter thrown in for flavor). 
Dog showing is more of an ‘every man’ sport. It is more affordable and more practical so more John Q Public can participate but only those with characteristics like the ones which drive horse showers do. Same social aspect but the social class is closer to blue collar than what is found at DAD, HITS, Rolex. You can be less athletic, handicap, work minimum wage, etc and still squeeze in a dog show once a month.
Specifically in this thread I believe the self-absorbed folks are not all those who show dogs, but those with stickers cautioning the world of their precious cargo be that puppies, babies, or piggies!
I enjoy seeing the other doggie stickers, magnets, and vanity plates. There’s a really cool one around here: DIDUQ. The Caution signs just bug me.

And bunnies and chickens and just about anything. I have a friend (also a horsewoman) who showed cats for a bit. She said the cat show people made horse people look normal. 
My favorite doggie window sticker: “My windows are not dirty. This is my dog’s Nose Art.”

For sure! I’ve shown horses & dogs for years but went to my first cat show two years ago (to watch!) and man…they are some weird people! I told my BF and he said “yeah well you dog & horse people are weird”…no way…this was beyond the usual weirdness!

Awww I love doggy nose art! Our dog passed away a few months ago, and my windows were way too clean. I started taking rescue dogs out for “field trips” to walk, and my car now looks lived in again.
I show my dogs, and most of the people I know show dogs. The other part show horses.
Those show dogs are just well-loved pets taught to stand stock still and beg as prettily as they can in the ring. Well, at least mine are.

I do. Just like with the general population, you get the nutballs and the sane ones. Actually I find the helicopter sports moms and dads worse, since they seem to be living vicariously through their children.

Oh my goodness I REALLY want a Beware of Poofy Dog sticker now!!
I did just get a weimaraner silhouette sticker and am going to put it on there. But then I thought about the fact that I’d be leaving out the other dogs… I need a labrador sticker, schnoodle sticker (if they even have those… Maybe I could cut the front of a poodle sticker and combine it with the back half of a schnauzer sticker? Lol), Australian shepherd sticker, golden retrieverish sticker… Plus the scuba diving stickers I already have… Might be a bit much!

I have always hated those bumper stickers. Dog show people can be very nice, but some can be the very worst sort of throwback to the era where purebreds lived on the nice side of town and mutts were disposable trash.

They’re worse, really - imagine a bumper sticker that says “Caution! Honor Student On Board!” as if Bradley was inherently more valuable than your kid. And think of the backlash. “Caution! Special Needs Blessing On Board!” And then the single-and-happy crowd would get into the action. “Caution: Childfree Woman’s Very Special DH On Board!”
You have to worry about the escalation.
