Cavaletti

Wasn’t sure which category to fit this in & was hoping to get input from varied disciplines so…

Can anyone clarify for me why I would raise one end of cavaletti on a circle. I have seen them set w/ inside ends raised & outside ends raised. I understand when they are alternating, or fully raised, but need clarification on the inside or outside configurations…

perhaps to correct a horse that is drifting in or out?

Ex: High on the inside discourages drifting in?

I set them high on one end so I can vary the workout without getting off and moving them. Mine are in a fan pattern and insides ends are raised so I can walk over them when they’re higher and closer together, or trot over them when they are lower and farther apart.

Since all horses (and people) are inherently asymmetrical in balance, muscle, and strength, raising one end makes that side work a bit harder - lift higher, reach farther

Also, any time there’s an unevenness to where their feet are going, whether uneven footing, step-ups/downs (like banks), or asymmetrical poles, it increases spatial awareness, proprioception, and attention

Raising one end on a circle just amplifies the difficulty of poles on a circle, so not something to do right when you introduce circle work. The circle cavaletti is one level of increased difficulty, so save raising one end higher for when circles are at least good enough

Thank you, this is what I am looking for - flat cavaletti even on a circle are not an issue, but I need to strengthen a specific leg some to get her a little more symmetrical
