Any other Canadians get this channel just for the Olympics? I thought the coverage was fantastic, and the commentary was great… until the last day. I don’t know who Nigel is, but I do know he’s useless as a commentator. :lol: Overall, though, I thought the commentary was informative, and useful to both those who knew the sport and those who were just watching it for the first time. What were your thoughts on it?
I thought that guy the last day was great after the terrible commentary the first couple days. Nancy Wetmore didn’t even know the formula for the first qualifer. She said it was a speed. I don’t know who Nigel Reed but he seemed to understand the sport (probably because he’s English). Nancy and Beth are a cure for insomnia. Except when tey make you angry at the mistakes they’re making.
Coverage was fantastic! I think its great that we get to watch ALL the horses not just a 3 minute “quickie” of what they think are the highlites.
AS for the commentary, they can only give the information they have been given, so don’t be to quick to think they have always made the mistake. After all… they were not at the olympics but commentating on what they saw live (as we did). All in all, I think they did a wonderful job. I don’t think I could do any better when its live to several million people!
Don’t forget that CBC Bold pays them to give commentary, not dead air.
Loved the coverage and I thought that Nancy, Cara and Beth did a great job! Not sure what happened to Beth for the last day but thought that Nigel did a pretty good job and was pretty funny at times! Hey, he was at least better than Terry Liebel!!!:yes:
Loved Bold TV
I loved the excellent coverage we got from Bold TV and really did not miss a thing (well I skipped dressage some days ;)). Cara’s voice was sometimes “grinding” but she explained everything so well and I learned a lot from her.
Beth and Nancy had to go their separate ways the last day because the CBC main channel was also showing the Individual Jumping live. Hence, Nancy partnered with Nigel and Beth partnered with ? (his name escapes me). I watched the CBC broadcast while taping the Bold one!!!
I sent emails to both CBC and Bold TV to thank them for the coverage and they both sent replies.
My main problem with the Nigel guy was that he really stated the obvious. Yes, I can see that a rail is down, and even if I didn’t see it fall, I would be able to see that four penalties had accrued, I really don’t need him to explain that it fell. What I liked about the earlier commentary was that it explained lengthening and shortening of stride, the shape of the horse over the jump and how it affected the round, etc.
Yahoo for CBC Bold! I have nothing negative to say about any of the commentators primarily because I am just so happy that CBC shows ALL of the rides from every country.
We whine because we don’t get to see enough equestrian sport on TV and then we whine because we don’t like it when we see it. MAN!
I am awaiting the next big event from the Spruce Meadows Masters which will be shown on CBC and on CBC Bold.

You can’t please all of the people all of the time. Yes, we could see that a pole was down, that was a bit obvious, but overall I thought Nancy Whetmore was personable, upbeat and I enjoyed her. The dressge coverage was helpful bearing in mind that many of the viewers would have previously thought watching dressage was ‘like watching paint dry’.
ESPECIALLY now I read above that Spruce will be on Bold. Wow.
Eric and Hickstead will be there (mobbed, I’m sure!).
I just enjoyed watching showjumping without Terry Liebel (sp?). I’m sooooo glad that she retired.

I agree, I would watch the events she comentated on mute
I ordered it as soon as I moved into my own place last year, just to be sure I’d have it for the Olympics. I must say I was very impressed with the coverage, especially the eventing, and it is definitely worth the extra cost. I plan to fire off my thank you emails tonight.
My only question now is what is going to happen when CTV takes over the Olympic coverage for London?
…I guess we had all better write begging letters to CTV to please give us a channel for equestrian.
So the fact that they don’t often show it means that we’re not allowed to have an opinion on it when they do? I don’t follow the logic.
That’s fantastic that they’re covering Spruce Meadows. I hope they’ll have some evening coverage, as I haven’t yet joined the 21st Century and don’t have one of those recording programs. VHS tapes only hold a few hours.

Another tip
For those of you who get the BBC on your satellite dish, have a look for “FEI Equestrian World” it is usually on after (or sometimes during) BBC World News. If you have a PVR you just have to find it once and record all and it will show up from time to time in your recordings. I have no idea what the regular schedule is, it seems a bit erratic. It always seems like a nice little present to open up the PVR recordings and find it there.

I even got it for free for 3 months as part of a free package (Rogers)… I will cancel the package in early November but I think I will keep Bold TV for now!
I think you should - if any channel is carrying equestrian it will be Bold (or Country Canada as it used to be called.)
my only complaint is they had the channel on (Free) for the opening weekend. so i’m like WOW i gert bold (had neve rlooked for it before the week before the games) FABULOUS set PVR…
Come home monday and NO BOLD Sniffles got up early to call and set it up (Shaw) tuesday am and got it all BUT THE FREESTYLES (my bad)
Had ti get it for a min 1 month $2.49 for me
