Sorry Goforward, I only now noticed this question.
It’s suggested 2g, I do slightly more. I order the original product that is made in the Netherlands where most studies were done. I toss 7 some days 8 capsules in his senior feed (divided over 2 meals) and he gobbles them up whole, I did read you can open the capsules and topdress as a powder.

There are other PEA products available and also bulk powders. I suspect those would be fine as well. Most PEA referenced to horse was micronized PEA however.

Fun fact: I have a veterinary book from the 1910s and the colic section lists the doses of cannabis you can give IV or IM in the event of a severe colic. From indications it was quite effective.

If I were going to go that route I would probably get a CBD-only or low-THC preparation made for humans from a dispensary where such a product is legal. I find for myself there needs to be a small amount of THC or the CBD is not effective for pain control. But that might vary in horses.
