Ceiling fans in barns??

Has anyone tried putting ceiling fans in their barns? How did they work or did they? Did your horses freak?

I have an old bank barn that I’d like to install ceiling fans insead of the two large industrial standing fans for this summer. Any ideas???

I’ve had ceiling fans in my stalls for 17 years. No problems, ever (knocking on wood).

I still use the big standing fans in the barn aisle though on those 90+ humid summer days.

Closed Motor Industrial Fans for Barn Ceilings Work GREAT ~

I have Closed Motor Industrial Fans for my ceiling fans ~ work nicely in addition to individual stall fans ~ IMHO

Make sure the motor is TEFC spec (Totally Enclosed, Fan Cooled)

On the side where the roof is high enough, I have ceiling fans; on fan for each two stalls. They are awesome! So much quieter and more efficient than box fans. Wish I could do them all around! As ZUZu said, look for closed motor fans made for industrial use.

Thanks everyone - you guys are the best!!

This:yes:

well,I thought I had posted a reply. Oh well.

We put in some industrial agricultural fans last year. I have been less than impressed with them.

We love ours – and the added side benefit that it keeps birds out of the barn. We run them summer and winter.

I have them. The only suggestion I have is…
make sure no turkeys are roosting on the beams near the fans when you turn them on. You may end up with a lot of white feathers all over your barn if you don’t.

Other than that little episode I love them.

My horses are fine with ceiling fans.

I want to replace the fans with the “big ass” fans, that is the brand name. My feedstore replaced its fans with the big ass fans and they are quiet and efficient and great.

Off to google ‘big ass fans’.
I have a large agricultural fan in the center aisle of my barn. It works well but it is super noisy.

I think the website is www.bigassfans.com

I haven’t seen them in a barn but there are Bigassfans at the little airport here in the staging area in front of TSA screening and several at Lakeside Arena. They are quiet, not really visible as they go fairly slowly and seem to move a lot of air, the one in the airport is huge and I am sure the ones at the arena are as well, they are just higher off the ground. I think the company was started in Lexington.

YES! Highly recommend these fans!!! They are amazing!
