Celle stallions at Spruce Meadows....

So did anyone see them and get pictures? Dying to see some pictures of “the boys” as I didn’t make it down there. I have a mare in foal to Heinrich Heine so would love to hear some thoughts/opinions/pictures of him specifically! Hoping someone will post some!

Have no worries, I took tons!!! Give me 24 hours to process them and pic the best!

Man, it’s almost impossible to take bad pics of those stallions!!

I was very sadden not to see Rotspon (for the third time.)
Some health issue kept him out of the ring and off site for Saturday at least.

Anyone saw him on Sunday??

I was very disapointed that when they came in they didn’t introduce each stallion individually. There were two that really stood out to me, but I didn’t know who they were!

Formusus, I eagerly await your pictures. I’m so sorry I couldn’t go to SM this year, but hopefully the stallions will be there again next year.

I know!
I went to the stables and wrote down each stallion’s markings to identify them in my pictures.
The two full brothers in particular could be hard to tell appart.
Silberschmeid is much slighter then the others so that was ok.
Santino really stood out in his bay coat!

I should have done that but was running late as always. Then I looked them up afterwards, but they were all wearing wraps and had minimal white, it was hard. On Friday night I liked the second black horse alot, in the group without the bays…
I think Rotspon ws the one who was much smaller, came in briefly on Friday then left the ring. The rider could barely get him to trot.

Awesome Veronique! Looking forward to pics!

winter, I’d really have liked an intro as to who each individual horse was on Sat as well! I’m not a dressage or Hanoverian person but did like the 2 front dark horses in the “dark group”. They did introduce the ones on Sun in the first demo, Hochadel was quite the show stopper!

He does not freeze isn’t he? (Hochadel)… That’s a bummer.

Considering that Spruce Meadow screwed up the pedigree on the plaque (and on their website) on some of the stallion’s stall maybe it was better they did not talk too much about the stallions on the PA system…

Will work on the pics tonight…

When I went to SM two years ago and saw the stallions, including Hochadel, I was so smitten I ran right in to the Verband booth to talk to Dr. Christmann about him. I was very disappointed that he didn’t freeze. Someone posted recently that they were doing some test breedings with his frozen, so maybe things have changed. I think Hochadel is absolutely stunning.

When I was on the Breeders Course in June I too fell in love with Hochadel. I have a long standing love affair with his sire Hohenstein. So I inquired immediately about his frozen. I was told they were going to do some test freezing this fall…so fingers crossed he freezes well this time around and will be available to us breeders!! I will most likely use His Highness next year (to get my Hohenstein) as his frozen is already proven. If it works I will then pray to ALL the Gods…Greek, Roman, Catholic, Muslim…for a filly!!!

Sadly, I tried Hohenstein with no luck…good cycle, clean mare, etc:(

Here are some pics:
Celle Stallions

I hope I got their name right… most of them black with tiny stars and small socks behind…

Thanks Veronique. Brilliant!

Thanks for posting the pictures. They are wonderful!

I saw them on Wednesday and also liked the two front dark horses Hochadel and Don Index the best though conformationally Don Index doesn’t blow me away. When I first saw Hochadel in Germany in the stall in 08 I thought he was too heavy (for my liking) but then when I saw him at Spruce a few years ago I was really impressed with him under saddle…great passage and ability to collect, lots of presence. He uses himself really well. I hope he freezes , I would love to use him on a Trakehner mare I have.

I saw Rotspon in his stall on Sunday AM, but then he was taken out of the barn. I saw my vet there who is the SM attending vet, but I did not pry.

My camera was not behaving itself, as I was trying to get some of the pictures of their performance between the first round of the Masters, particularly when they were working in-hand, so that was disappointing.

They are all very impressive stallions, but I was super impressed with Santino. He was swarmed by people after their final performance on Sunday and he just ADORED the attention. He just stood there and half-closed his eyes and snuffled up with 2 little girls who were petting his nose - they couldn’t have been more than 5 years old?? With adults he just poked his nose towards each person, saying hello and just absorbing all the love. His rider was particularly outgoing, talking with everyone, teasing the little kids, super guy. Don Index was rather pleased with an apple that a woman gave him and most of the stallions were, of course, very well behaved.

Just an update - I just saw Rotspon this early afternoon and he is doing much, much better. His antibiotics are obviously doing the trick as he is bright eyed and very alert and attentive, whereas on Sunday he looked dull and mopey. What a super boy he is. He just loves human attention, loves to be scritched. Lovely well-socialized stallion. He has quite a presence about him.

Did anyone else notice that they all appeared to be barefoot behind? I was too far away to be absolutely sure, but Formosus’s pictures seem to confirm the same thing.
