Is BOT still the gold standard? My mare has ultra narrow shoulders so blankets often sit low. I’ve read about BOT slipping back and rubbing so I’m really hesitant to create a pressure point and tension through the most tense area on her body. Are there other brands to consider? Does anyone offer a high neck ceramic option?
I feel like there are so many options in therapeutics now, ceramic and not. Schneider’s Lux, Tough-1, Smartpak’s own line, Draper, Fenwick Liquid Titanium, Rambo Ionic, Professional’s Choice Ceramic. IMHO, the Rambo sheets fit the best, but the little ionic dots are starting to come off after a few years, so I don’t know how much benefit it provides anymore.
If you are just using it when the horse is say, standing in x-ties, there is also a cheaper option of a normal heating pad from the drugstore. There is nothing super magical about these ceramic thingies, despite the marketers’ love of special-sounding words, they are simply a heinously overpriced warming pad.
And electric blanket before your ride is a great help for some
I’m looking for something that can be layered under a sheet overnight, used during handwalking, etc. so a heating pad will not meet my needs in those situations.
I love my Draper Celiant blanket…
Never had any issues with my BOT but I also don’t use it as a full time blanket. At night some nights if the horse has an issue, or otherwise I use it for a few hrs at night. It really has helped my gues with some big injuries.
I can’t make the BOT mesh sheet fit Idk what it is but it definitely slips back and makes me uncomfortable with the fit. I tried her usual size and it was too small, and the size up doesnt work either. I am going to have to try a different brand.
I’ve never been able to get my BOT sheet to fit well either. It slips back and pulls on my mare’s shoulders. I keep thinking I need to take it to a seamstress and get darts put in the neckline…
My mare and I quite like her Professional’s Choice Theramic blanket. She wears an 81-82 and the large fits her quite well.
