Chaffe Haye

Has anyone here fed Chaffe Haye to horses? In a nutshell its fermented alfa alfa and I heard from a few folks that its realy good for their gutt health. I wanted to feed it to my goats anyway, so I give a handful to the horses - they LOVE it

My horse gets fed chaffe Haye alfalfa loves it. Gets a half bale per day.

I’ve been feeding it to my horse for about 5mo now. It has really helped his ulcer symptoms. He gets 2 servings per day. He loves it and will eat his chaffe haye before his grain

I have fed it for years to my goats and horses. Some like it better than others.

You do have to be careful when storing it after it has been opened. Push as much air out as you can, and “seal” the bag closed with a brick or rock. You don’t want it to be open to the air or it could ferment to the point of being rancid, and make the horses/goats sick. For the same reason, you want to use a bag up quickly, especially in warmer months. In the heat of the summer it is best to use it up within 3-5 days if you cannot store it in an air-conditioned area.

I’ve fed it in the past to a thirty-something horse with missing teeth (no known ulcers, however). As mentioned above, it goes bad quickly, especially in a warm climate, so it turned out to be impractical for my situation.

The horse tolerated eating it, but didn’t act as though it was the greatest thing ever, and I wasn’t able (due to weather and spoilage concerns) to continue feeding it long enough to notice any change in condition.

I store it in a broken small freezer- it works well for that . I have a broken fridge in the barn for keeping any first aid, snacks, meds etc- works great at keeping the temperature steady and kkep things cleaner then keeping it in a shelf

I brought home a free sample of Chaff Hay from a horsey trade show and neither of my horses would touch it.
