I’m having a terrible time finding a comfortable skull cap, and I was wondering if anyone has tried these two, or the elusive Charles Owen MS1 (supposed to be out in April, but still back-ordered)? I have a long oval head, but in a size 56, and the more oval shaped Charles Owen skull caps like the 4 star and Pro II are too shallow and perch on me. The size 56 J3 sits deep enough, but is too round and gives me a headache, and the 57 is way too loose. Champion describes the pro-ultimate as a round oval, and the ventair as a long oval, but it looks like the pro sits deeper. Anyone tried either of them? I can fit into either a small oval or a medium one k defender, but skull caps are harder. The pro-ultimate is Snell certified, so I would lean towards that one if it fits.
I previously have had a Ventair for years and wanted to upgrade. The Champion MIPs hat is not out until September so I decided to try Charles Owen MIPs and Champion Pro-Ultimate.
I didn’t like the Charles Owen at all. It felt a bit too deep and low, and I am not sure I am completely overwhelmed with the way they have done the MIPs.
The Pro-Ultimate felt pretty identical to the Ventair. Maybe slightly heavier and padded which is after all what it is. I ended up in exactly the same size as the Ventair and like it. I have had to buy a new hat silk though as a lot bigger than my Ventair which again makes sense as its SNELL so thicker and bigger.
I don’t ride much in my skull - I only use it for XC so I cannot comment on riding in it for long periods of time but its fine for the 30 mins I wear it for. My other hats if any help are a Samshield Shadowmatt and Gatehouse Conquest 2.
@solarflight I think has a similar shaped head with the same fitting problems, she tried the Champion on and loved it.
A CO skull fits me fine, how does it comapre to Champion’s fit. I have an oval head.
Did you try the APM2? https://www.charlesowen.com/products/apm-ii/ I have one and while I lean towards using my Trauma Void’s daily, it’s a great fall back helmet in awful weather. (Have to protect the Trauma Voids!) But seriously the APM II has a lot more neck protection and it quite literally saved the life of a steeplechase jockey friend of mine.

I have a long oval head, none of the CO helmets fit me. I find CO is not deep enough and too round for my head. I usually wear IRH or GPA, which fit me well, but of course can’t find a skull cap in those brands. Tried a Champion one on in Kentucky, and it fit so well.
