I’ve been feeding my dogs the Primitive Natural formula for quite some time and have been very happy. The last two bags however-the kibble looks slightly different and they suddenly have giant stools like they would if they were eating a low quality carb filled food. One is also gassier than usual. The company claims nothing has changed, but has anyone else experienced this?
Have you compared the ingredients on the bags? Are you getting it from the same retailer? Has the product expired and maybe that is what is causing the issue?
I had a similar situation happen when my dog food brand (a different one) changed a few things in their kibble. The size was different and the bag design was different. That made me think that the unpleasant effects on my dog (he has allergies and was acting like he did before we tried this brand that had worked long term) was because of the food change. Turns out, the retailer I bought it from sent an expired bag and that is likely the culprit. I just never paid attention to the expiration date before then.
Hopefully you can figure out the cause.
Our newest bag of Earthborn cat food for the farm cats is also slightly different in color and the cats will barely touch it…I think the old bag got tossed so can’t go back and compare labels, unfortunately.
This is my dilemma. I do have an old bag to compare. I’ve decided to switch since the manufacturer cannot give me a satisfactory answer.
All 3 of my cats developed urinary tract problems the same week with that feed. Blood in pee, two hospitalized, etc. my vet felt it was highly likely it was the food because nothing else changed but a new bag, and it was not a virus or other transimittable issue. I contacted the company but they wouldn’t even test it. I would never feed that brand again.
Huh…I use Primitive Natural as well. But I often notice the kibble looks slightly different, but I have’t noticed any issues with it or problems with my dogs. Seems every bag has a slightly different colored kibble.
Can a food cause blood in urine? (Serious question, not being snarky at all.) I ask only because one of my dogs has an issue as well. He’s a ten-year-old Ridgeback, so I am in the process of back and forth to the vet…
My vet thought it was contaminated with something. I took them off it and all issues were gone in a couple of days for all 3 cats. Normal kitty UT issues are not contagious either…my vet had never heard of every cat in a house coming down with one at the same time before. Nothing changed in their routine either so no stress cause. I don’t really know because EH was uninterested in testing and I had already spent a few thousand fixing the kitties and couldn’t afford to pursue that out of pocket.
Sheesh, fordtraktor. Glad they are all okay now!
