Has anyone ever done something like that, or know if it is possible?
I have a dressage saddle, barely used, and I would like a couple of centi meters longer space in the seat before saddle starts swinging upwards in the back.
Anyone have an idea if this is utopian of me?
I know you can replace the leather, but not sure if they have to resculpt the foam in the seat when they do that.
The cantle is framed by the tree, so not sure how much extra space you can get…
I do not think it is possible to make a saddle’s seat bigger, no. But that just means it’s time to shop!
Saddles are built on a tree, a frame, You can no more change the parameter of a saddle’s seat than you can shift the walls of a room. You can buy another house, you can tear down the wall and extend it. The latter is not done with saddles as it involves more than the ability to build straight and square.
does anyone have a recommendation for replacing the leather on the seat of my saddle. I cannot afford a new saddle and my current saddle a Passier GG fits both me and my horse wonderfully. In Maryland. Prefer someone who can come to me and do it since its the only saddle I own and I ride 5-6 days a week.
Short answer is no, I do not think it would be possibly or if possible easy to do.
rideastar, a seat replace is not something that you would be able to do at your place. It is a major repair and there are not a lot of people in the united states that will even do a seat replacement. You basically have to take part the entire saddle to replace a seat. It is also not cheap. I think at least around $1000.
Yeah when I considered replacing a seat with suede I was definitely quoted like 900 ie more than i paid for the saddle so no go for me. Consider a seat saver instead.
I’ve never heard of someone doing this on site. It’s a big job. If the damage is limited to a small area, consider whether it could be patched. It’s ugly, but cheaper and faster.
I only know of one local place that will replace a seat and they charge $600.
Seats are a major repair. I had one replaced and it cost about a grand. It took two weeks for the repair. You can get a good used Passier GG for between 600-900 on eBay, so I would either use a seat saver or get a new one.
A seat can’t be done onsite. It would need to be basically stripped to the tree to replace.
the repair person I use, who is excellent, would charge $1k for that job. Smith Worthington will do it for around $850.
an older Passier, I would just replace the entire saddle. It’s one of the biggest jobs in saddle repair probably second only to replacing the tree.
