Chantal Sutherland is riding in her underwear! . !!! ...

I didn’t go to the website. Hope you all have really good anti-virus software.

It did not bother my computer at all but I have a Mac.

I am just trying to figure out the point of using such a pic on her website in the first place? Maybe I’m dense but I don’t get it.

From the British racing social magazine - “Eclipse” June '09 - Alex Brown did this interview with her:

Chantal enjoys the idea that she can be a role model for women who want to pursue horse racing. “I am definitely proof that if you really want to achieve something, then with hard work and dedication, you can,” she says.

Speaking of Chantal, anyone know why she didn’t have a mount in the Queen’s Plate? Since she’s the second top winning jockey at Woodbine, I figured she would be riding.

Tacky, tacky, tacky.

And I’ve got to agree with the poster who mentioned the helmet–where is it? That’s being a role model?

Ick.
There’s the hint of a trend in the making going on (in case you missed it, jockey Maylan Studart on the carousel in her lingerie).

I’m not liking it.
I see a difference between the two photos. The Leibowitz photo of Chantal makes her look strong and beautiful and fit. After seeing all those muscles, I’d take Chantal seriously! The carousel photo OTOH just looks kind of soft-core porn and cheesy. IMO, anyway.

Chantal Sutherland is strong and beautiful and fit – she doesn’t need someone to make her look that way. Rather, Leibovitz has succeeded in making a beautiful and strong and fit woman look ridiculous.

Sure, I get it that the photograph of Chantal is art - the kind of art that gets you talked about because you took your clothes off. The hackneyed Leibovitz m.o. is only a slight step above soft core porn in my book.

Why does every person who achieves any measure of fame need to be seen as a role model?

Kids should look to their parents for role models, not rap stars, and actresses, and jockeys.

If I had a daughter I’d be much more concerned about the message sent by the fact that a successful woman still feesl the need to take off her clothes to get ahead than I would by the fact that she’s not wearing a helmet.

While I agree that a lot of public people are unexpectedly thrust (kicking and screaming) into being a role model in this case if you see Chantal’s remarks she wants to be a role model. A bit different in that case  (BTW I don’t think the helmet missing is that huge of a deal IMHO - if they shot a movie in 2009 on Man O’War you would see exercise boys without one, etc)

The infamous 2002 quote with former NBA star Charles Barkley:

“I am not paid to be a role model. I am paid to wreak havoc on a basketball court. Parents should be role models. Just because I can dunk a basketball, that doesn’t mean I should raise your kids”

Used later in a Nike ad aired mid-decade

I agree with you entirely. As I said, I think it’s tacky, and that means I think it’s inappropriate. But I’m not the one making the lady a role model (thank God I’m not in charge of that!). I wouldn’t consider her one myself, probably partly because I’m not a young girl wanting to become a jockey, for example. But Chantal evidently would like to be considered one, if Alex Brown’s interview plugged today on Paulick’s site is to be believed:

Chantal enjoys the idea that she can be a role model for women who want to pursue horse racing. “I am definitely proof that if you really want to achieve something, then with hard work and dedication, you can,” she says.

As for your last point:

If I had a daughter I’d be much more concerned about the message sent by the fact that a successful woman still feesl the need to take off her clothes to get ahead than I would by the fact that she’s not wearing a helmet.

I agree with that, too, although the fact that you hold that view suggests that Chantal, by dint perhaps of fame and self-promotion alone, is someone parents would probably see as a de facto role model candidate (by which I mean a person whom others will emulate, whether or not they are good or bad examples). Children, alas, often seem to choose these themselves! Fortunately, the dogs at Chez AH have no such temptations.

I don’t take question with role-models. A person- child, teen or adult can have several role-models. I mean a parent can’t be “everything” for a child.

If my daughter said “ohhh Chantel is my role-model” it would mean to me that my daughter has interest in the world of famous jockeys- I’m not a jockey so how could I possibly be a role model for that?

Her website is kind of tacky but she obviously like her site so… good for her

I can’t help but think, SuperSTB, that maybe somehow you could get Chantal to sign on to your “Save the Underwear” campaign!

WTF?

I don’t get it. In 2005 Chantal lamented about how much sexual harassment she was subject to at Woodbine by the male trainers. Referring to this article…

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9D00EED81639F93BA25756C0A9639C8B63&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=all

So she packed her bags and went to New York.

Well now she has got new boobs( not knocking. just saying) a reality show, a makeup rep, want a modeling contract…and a website where she is riding a horse naked/ or wanting to look naked…

Way to do an about face Chantal…that shows some spine!!!

Looks very photoshopped to me! I agree, pretty tacky.

Yeah, she showed some spine. And some leg and some booty…

I agree that’s pretty annoying. Like Britney Spears shouting “Leave me alone, let me have some privacy!” and then appearing on a cover nekkid. It’s like, make up your mind. Do you want people to look at you or not?

She got new boobs? (Not knocking either. To each her own.) Amazing that a doc would even perform that surgery, considering what a high risk sport she’s in. Seems like that’s more dangerous than the average woman’s chance of popping those suckers in an accident.

Good Grief, you sound like a bunch of bitter, jealous old hens. Talented girl , great rider and a nice person. I bet she dosn’t care about a bunch of middle old ladies knocking her for being very sucessful. Give it a rest , hard working good girl.

Haha, Canada? California? Chantal? Kidding, but an amusing coincidence.

I hope you’re not referring to me as a bitter old hen. Maybe I just had the misfortune of posting right before you. I might be bitter, but I’m neither old nor a hen. I think she’s got a rockin’ body. I can think she looks good without saying, “She’s hot, so she must be a bitch.” I don’t really know why she feels like she had to strip down, but whatever.

Who is knocking her for being successful? A few people are wondering why she’s nearly naked on a horse, but I don’t see anyone knocking her.

When you take your clothes off, some people will talk. If you don’t care that you’re taking your clothes off in front of people, you probably don’t care that people are wondering why you did it. You shouldn’t, at any rate.

Actually, I don’t think a single person here has knocked her for being successful.

And to further open up that can of worms, part of her success comes from people talking about her and knowing who she is. I would imagine appearing scantily clad in a magazine would play a big part in that strategy. So, Flypony, why would you want people to stop talking about her? Logically, wouldn’t that mean you don’t want her to succeed in getting more publicity? Quite a little paradox you’ve opened up there.

And my main question is, if she doesn’t care what a bunch of elderly chickens have to say about her (which I sincerely hope she doesn’t) then why do you?

Seriously Fly, lighten up. Who cares?

I was just wondering how Robert Mapplethorpe, had he not passed away, could have captured Gary Stevens on film.

How’s that thought for a clucking old hen?
