Charles Owen skull caps for a long oval head?

I’m looking at a few different CO skull caps: the Pro II, J3, and the newest 4Star. Anybody know about which ones are better for a long oval head, and which one has the best/most ventilation? I have a Pro II and it was ok when I first got it, but as the padding has smushed over the years not so much. I don’t know if it’s because it wasn’t really a long oval and just got padded up or whether I have a particularly long oval head! Curious about the 4Star.

Any thoughts or experiences?

I believe the 4Star has more of an oval shape, like the Pro II. Though whether or not it is more oval than the Pro II or the same fit, I cannot say. The J3 fits a rounder shape, as that is what I wear and the Pro II I tried on (fitted by a CO rep a few years ago) just sat on top of my head. So I definitely think you can mark the J3 off your list.

You might try contacting Charles Owen to inquire?

I have a very large, long oval, head. The Charles Owen j3 fits me well. The 4 star is not quite comfortable, although it almost fits. The fit Definitely differs between the two helmets.

And already you have two posts with conflicting answers about the J3

You can search the forums a bit here, but I think you’ll find most people report that the J3 fits a round profile, while most other CO helmets fit the oval shape. I also fit well in OneK helmets, which I think fit more round. If you can, I suggest going somewhere where you can try several of the different models on. That is why I waited to buy my first skull cap at Rolex several years ago - I wanted to try them all on at CO and be professionally fitted. Hope you find something that fits!

I have a relatively oval head and the pro II fits me very well and was the most ventilated skull cap I could that fit me. The first time I ordered one I had a relatively long discussion with the reps about head shape/fit of the helmets I was considering and they were very helpful and have more info than is posted on the website about products so may help you to call. The J3 doesn;t fit me at all and never tried the 4star

I also have a long oval head and have worn the CO Pro II for years. It’s a great helmet and fits me well. At one point, I did try the 4Star and it did not fit my head comfortably.

Another Pro II fan here. Note that CO also makes it in a “round” version though in a reduced size range, so do check what you’re trying on. My head finds the J3 a lot rounder.

The 4Star tops out at 62cm (aka 7 5/8 or 4 1/2), so no good for me or I’d have tried one!

J3 doesn’t fit my large long oval head. None of the CO type fit me. IRH Elite in a long oval is about all that fits me.

I have a bit of an oval shaped head and the Pro II fits fine. The padding condenses in all of the CO helmets as you wear them more, I always recommend people get their’s to be a bit more snug than they actually want it to be, that way it isn’t falling down in front of their eyes in a year. FWIW, I work at a tack shop and I haven’t had a single person say they like the 4 star. We mostly sell Pro IIs

Thanks everybody–I appreciate the input!

I think my local tack store will get the options in for me to try. I know the Pro II size 7/size2 fits as it is what I’m wearing now that CO fit me at Rolex several years ago. It is past needing to be replaced, and it is at least two sizes bigger now with lots of gapping on the sides than when I bought it. It’ll be interesting to see how the 4Star compares.

I’ll be sure to report back!
