Can anyone give me a good feel on the horse boarding/eventing scene in the Charlotte area? Would be looking at living closer to Indian Land, Fort Mill / Weddington area and would love to find a nice, quiet, drama-free adult amateur barn. Ample turn-out is a must, as well as lights to ride after work in the winter. Any advice would be amazing!
I would post in the Eventing forum. A lot of the people on here own their own acreages.
Welcome to the Charlotte area!!! There are a LOT of barns to choose from - that is definitely an upside. There aren’t a ton of places that are strongly geared towards eventing in the South Charlotte area, but there are plenty that make it conducive to that type of training if you don’t want to drive a bit.
Your preferences for training will probably be the most important. If you like working frequently with a trainer, you might want to get an idea of who you might want to ride with, to see where they teach. If you are willing to trailer out, or tend to work more independently, it will open up your options because you may not be restricted by barn policies against outside trainers.
If you haven’t found it yet, check out Charlotte Area Equestrian group on Facebook - it’s an awesome resource!
Feel free to pm me if you think of any other questions!
The barn I board doesn’t necessarily need to be geared towards eventing, but having a place to school some gymnastics and do hill work would be a definite plus. I would prefer to not be at a “riding academy”, but the place I am at now (in OKC - its slim pickens) has become an equitation/hunter academy - not ideal, but I make it work.
