“Cheap” Dress Boots

So my boots finally died today after my lesson, it s about time, but I was hoping they’d get me through.

I’m looking for cheap, since I’m just doing 1x weekly lessons to help me get in shape/fix my riding posture for my cowhorse stuff.

I’m boujee and can’t let go of my old habits of liking nice things and being particular. However, I refuse to buy a new pair of Tuccis for lessons. So I want dress boots with a square toe, but I know that’s a reach for a cheap price tag.

Are the Tuffrider Parwanties what we’re still loving for a low price? Is there something better now?

Come over to the dark side of washable half chaps and paddock boots! :joy:

Check the boot groups on Facebook, you might find some higher end boots for cheap.

Honestly…as a very anti-Parlanti person (I much prefer Tucci and Fabbri) I will say…I own a pair of the canvas lined Parlantis and they’ve been going strong since 2019! I ride in them almost daily. I’m impressed with how they’ve held up!

Had the Tuffriders and hated them. They were WAY too thin (shaft and soles both). I felt like I was wearing socks and the soles were so horribly thin that walking the short bit of gravel to the arena was no fun.

Idk what cheap is to you but I have gotten Ariat V Sports/ Volants off of eBay for no more than $180 or so for a long while now. They are thicker leather that holds up to abuse and the soles are nice and comfy.

Not sure how cheap you are looking for, but I got some ariats when I was in kentucky at the 3 day. The volunteer discount was super nice on the boots, but they look to match what you are looking for.

Currently going through the pain of breaking mine in though…

I think these are the ones I got: ( Palisade Dress Tall Riding Boot)

I just got a pair of Tuffrider Belmont dress boots, to replace their older Parlanti knockoff that I had for years, and so far so good. I tried on nicer boots in a slightly higher price and decided the no break in comfort was worth the reduced durability.

Unsure what constitutes “cheap” but I love the Deniro Amabile Tricolore dress boot in the “quick” leather. Zero break in time and they have a lovely square toe.

Sergio Grasso has a version with square toes that are really pretty. Unfortunately the zippers on mine blew out and I have yet to get them fixed but they are a very lovely boot. I’m currently riding in the Ariat Kinsley boots and while the toe isn’t quite square, they are very nice boots for the price too.

Hmm…would you mind sharing what said discount is? I am curious.

Ariat - 25% off purchase, at the booth only, by showing volunteer badge. Good on anything, so took $100 off the boots basically.

There where a couple good discounts for volunteers. $50 off at LubriSynHA, free Mrs. Pastures Bags, coupon codes from Professionals choice. Also volunteering got you 4 day general admission (including the days you are not working). So I plan to volunteer again next year.

I love the Parwanties! Tuffrider Regals have become my show boot of choice. I don’t think they are the most durable option out there. But they are comfy and have that Parlanti look and a great pricepoint. For once a week, seems like they should hold up for a while. If you shop around a bit, they are often discounted somewhere–especially breeches.com

Thanks for the info. I always say I would like to volunteer one year. That’s a decent incentive.

There are so many options for volunteering. I’ve volunteered the past 2 years in different roles and if you choose your role carefully (what you like to do, what you are good at, and how much time you can realistically give), it can be really helpful. You also get a lunch stipend for the days you volunteer. We paid for our hotel with points and drove there so all we paid for were (most) meals and gas. They treat their volunteers really well.

So update, I wound up with a pair of Horze Duvall boots. They were in Memorial Day sale, and I could get them through Amazon for easy returns and fast shipping.

And I’ve got to say, while I don’t imagine they would last a normal person, for someone like me (a had been) that’s just taking lessons and not wanting to spend a lot of money but still look nice… WOW. They fit like customs off the rack (I’m lucky to have a basic leg - so they measured my exact specs). They are super comfy in the foot and the perfect height for me. The zipper also seems durable!

I mean at $150, even if they only last until I’m done with my lessons (this isn’t a permanent thing), I don’t feel bad about spending the money. I’ve spent $150 on WAY dumber stuff.

I think you’ll be happy with them! I got the Horze Rover boots for less than $100 (on sale) last year and they’ve held up well to light use (I only use them for shows/clinics/foxhunting). But they’re very comfy, required zero break in, and look great! I would think they’d be totally fine for weekly lessons.

(edited because I didn’t realize you were the OP!)

Romitelli had some great discounts when I bought from them in person—I think I got a pair of $900 for $300ish. Currently my favorite boots

For cheap + lovely quality, I’d say try consignment shops, or try to find leftover discontinued old stock - if you happen to find your size you can get a great deal. I just bought a pair of gorgeous schooling boots for next to nothing because they were the last pair.
