Check Fugly's blog entry today (Jan 19)

“Tiny” was apparently the name his former cough (for lack of a better word) owner called him.

He was christened Hercules after his rescue. For which, among many other things, I’m sure he is grateful.

Thank YOU!!! <Big sigh of relief>
Long live Hercules!!!

This deserves wider coverage

I think this story is of general interest to the public and deserves wider dissemination. Does anyone have contacts in the national press?

You can send links to the Fugly blog; I wouldn’t be surprised if some publication picked it up as it has quite a lot of human interest: sweet faithful horse, photogenic but nasty owner, Ferraris and fast living, medicaid fraud.

Suggestions?

I think we should start up a collection for the poor little Halfie she now rides. Pretty soon his fuse will blow and he’ll go the same way. Do you think Fugly will keep an eye out for him? I personally have a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that the lwd has a home and the old man can give the bottle blond a big raspberry kiss. Wonder if Hercules ever had the option to take a bite out of the blond bimbo?

Don’t hold back, tell us what you really think of the former owner.

As for the news media, it would be beneficial to have a local TV station there where the horse is get the story first, and then it could be picked up by the national news media. You can call TV reporters long distance, I called the Nashville reporters for alterintennessee on her thread, and 2 TV reporters and one print reporter called me back and wanted to help. But that’s all another story.

I only know the Atlanta reporters and anchors. And Nancy Grace:lol: (and she’s not interested in anyone but Nancy Grace.)

Just to update, we have a bit more info on him. His USEF name was “Get Shorty” and she recorded him with USEF as being a son of Slew the Bride out of Floating Away, but there is no JC registered horse with that name of his gender and vintage, so I am working on finding out his JC name and race record.

Regarding the euth question: Here’s the deal –

Is this horse “bad enough” to euth for lameness? OMG no. Far from it. I have little doubt I’ll be posting riding video of him within months. We will get him sound. He didn’t even have white line. He had a keratoma and it was removed. Someone did a great job. The ringbone in back is old and an injection or two should help him a lot. And of course I’ve ordered some supplements for him as well. He’ll be sound - not to jump, not to do serious collected work, but certainly for pleasure riding.

However, can the rescues take in and rehab and support every lame horse needing care or some untrained four year old or barren old broodie that some private owner doesn’t want to foot the bill for? Of course not. So, trying to be logical here, I have pretty much concluded that I’m OK with people euthing for ANY reason. After all:

 1. Euthanasia isn’t cruel. The horse is tranq’ed into lala land and gets a shot. It is no more traumatic for the horse than his usual spring shots.

 2. There are not enough homes/money/rescues and there never will be, as long as the overbreeding continues, which given that we live in the land of the free to be as irresponsible as you like, it is a likely bet it will continue.

So at this point euthanasia is the lesser of the potential evils. It beats slaughter and it beats starvation. If she would have euth’ed him, nobody would have said a word, certainly not me - he IS old, he DOES have multiple issues, and he would not have suffered by that. To leave him at Enumclaw in a concrete floored pen with strange horses, to fight for food and wait to have his 17 hand self packed into a double decker that may only have an interior height of 5’7? Not even marginally okay. Not the slightest bit justifiable. She had every opportunity to do the right thing, and even lied to her boarders and TOLD THEM he’d “died in her arms” at the vet’s. She knew what she was doing was wrong. She just wanted to save $400.

Hope that $400 was worth it!

People like her disgust me.

I have a wonderful 27 y.o. OTTB who is a strain on my wallet, but is sound and happy. He’s not going anywhere, period. It’s my responsibility to give him the best life he deserves until the time comes…

She just makes me sick.

They are speaking of the same farm, same lady. I sent this to Fugly, but maybe she didn’t get it. I have no clue as to the validity of the accusations, but there were several. Fugly is encouraging people to step up and say something, but there is always a danger of inocent people being acused. I was hoping she would clear this up one way or another.
Since it is improper for COTH to display the names so I thought maybe Fugly would bring it up or investigate as this seems to be an ongoing issue. I hope no more animals are in danger.

Thread was not only closed but apparently has been removed.

There are names/words to describe the morally decrepid individual here but as this bb is visited by young people, I will refrain. I do hope any and all who know this woman will cease doing any sort of business with her and will use any and all opportunities to tell this tale. This woman should NOT have animals.

We have his identity!

Hercules/aka Tiny/aka “Get Shorty” is Da’or Wels. Born April 7, 1992, so he’s just 18 this year. Foaled in California, bred by Mr. & Mrs. Rudy Murrieta & Mr. & Mrs. Richard Garza. If anyone knows the Murrietas or the Garzas, it would be fun to let them know their horse has over 800 Facebook Friends.

It says I’m not allowed to look at the COTH post.

Does anyone know what happened to Salvisa? She was the Riva Ridge daughter.

Apperantly a touchy subject. The “persons” farm web page with horses for sale and such has also been removed. It seems the evidence is quickly disappearing. This is obviously not the place to discuss it but I am not sure where it should go to?

Your post re: barn in Alexandria

Hi – Which lesson barn in Alexandria are you referring to? I’m currently looking for a new boarding barn in the VA/MD area, so I’d like your input. I know there is more than one boarding (and lesson??) barn in Alexandria and a friend just suggested checking into one today (general recommendation based on location, no knowledge of set-up or conditions there) and I’d like to make sure it’s not the same one.

Thanks so much.
I once rescued a 27-year-old TB who was owned by a small, crappy lesson barn in Alexandria, Va. The owner said the horse was narcoleptic bec. he fell down while on cross ties once or twice while kids were grooming him.

I rehomed him with a fabulous horse rescue and two years later he’s fine, feisty and no longer falls down. The horse wasn’t narcoleptic. He was sleep-deprived and starved. The owner was a selfish, lying human who denied this old man enough private space so he could sleep at nite (group turnout in a small mud paddock) and starved him.

Both of these cases, fugly’s and the one i recount, are abuse by sick, selfish humans. The horses are completely innocent and should not be put down!
I respect COTH protecting themselves and others against liable but this person is using this forum to collect mares. There is a feedback forum where people are allowed to post their experiences, this thread should be allowed there and open, to be fair and in concern for horses safety.

I am reviving this old thread because something made me wonder about Hercules. He would be twenty-eight this year. Is he still living? I googled his name along with his old owner, Wendy Hsue, and I couldn’t find much.

Let’s hope her latest horses are being dealt with in a decent way when she’s done with them.

Bump. Wondering the same. @catknsn , are you still around? I miss the FHOTD blog.
