Checking out the horse community in Grass Valley, CA

My husband and I are thinking about relocating to the Grass Valley area in CA. Anyone here from that area and if so, any info/tips/suggestions? We’re in the very preliminary stages and will be doing our first scouting trip up there in a few weeks. In an ideal world, we’d be searching for a property where I could keep my miniature horses at home (I’m thinking I’d board the big horses – both retirees – elsewhere, if I could handle no longer having them at home with me, although that’s part of the plan for this next chapter in my life). So I’d be interested in any recommendations for stables to check out, as well as suggestions for good locations for properties. My husband is a real estate broker but that area is completely new to us.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I have good friends in the area, but don’t know much about the horse scene. Have you checked out bay area equestrian? That may give you some ideas. It is beautiful up there!

Omg!!! We just left there so I can tell you all about it! And actually, our 5-acre property is for sale.

I’m just getting to bed so let’s pm tomorrow!

It’s a great area, very horsey and Sacramento area to the south is super horsey-centric! Tons of shows, Loomis Basin Vet hospital (excellent), etc.

Nevada City is more expensive than Grass Valley. Both have super cute downtowns, but Nevada City is probably considered a bit more ‘hip.’

Check out the Chicago Park area for sure if you are interested in horse property. Newtown Road area is very nice.

There is a beautiful eventing facility called Hisken’s Eventful Acres that’s south of Grass Valley in a little town called Oregon House. No boarding but a fun place as they are always having shows, camps and clinics – and the place is to die for beautiful. Great XC schooling!

This is also where the Area VI adult camp is each summer. Katie, are you going?!
