Checkmate stallion -Thoughts?????

Was interested in getting feedback from those of you out there who are familiar with the stallion Checkmate. Pros/Con’s?

Looking for an approved AHS stallion who will ad nice length of neck, some refinement and a killer jump to my AHS approved filly. MUST have quiet brain so was particularly interested in his temperament. I know he’s newly approved and very young so any input is appreciated. I can’t find a lot out there on him. Thanks!!

Saw him in OK. Really beautiful stallion. Modern, elegant, with a wonderful character and constitution. Great jump, good mover (leaning more toward a hunter in the trot however). Can’t beat the service from the Stallion owner, and there are lots of babies to find online out of a variety of mares.

I have one Checkmate foal and another coming next year from the same cross. Mine was Premium GOV and I also know that a lot of his babies receive Foal of Distinction awards with them as well. There were two others at another inspection that I was at this year and both of those were Premium as well. he is very pre potent for type, lovely toplines, big trots. I think his offspring will be some of the ones to watch in the hunter/jumper ring in the future. all that I have seen are lovely, of the small handful I have seen… I have noticed that are a tad straight in the hindleg. Nothing bad, but something to note if you are looking for a stallion to improve a straighter hindleg on a mare. Really super stallion and the stallion owner is fantastic to work with. semen is excellent. hope this helps.

I have two babies from him, a 2013 gelding and a 2014 filly. Both are very nice and typey, gorgeous hunter prospects. You can see them on our website below.

I have a 2013 filly. I like her a whole lot. She is out of a Balou du Rouet mare. I am smitten. She seems to have a lot of her sire’s characteristics but I see a lot of her dam in her as well. I’m not sure if he adds length of neck but my filly’s neck has plenty of length. He added some leg to the dam which is what she needed. She has a good temperament. She likes to say no to you at first but it doesn’t take much to change her mind. And once she knows what you’re asking, she tries to do it the way you want every time thereafter. I can’t wait till she is old enough to show what she’s got in the jumping department.

Thank you for your interest in our young stallion Checkmate, I would be happy to answer any questions you have if you want to drop me a line.
Love hearing how happy everyone is with their babies
I am also happy to put you in touch with more owners/breeders of his offspring. 2014 was just his second foal crop, he does have a very high % of premium foals, he has also had several Foals of Distinction, as well as site Champions. Our own colt by him this year was named Premium, FOD and a stallion prospect by the GOV.
I am also in the process of finally updating our website so will be adding more offspring pictures and information.

When the Hanoverian approved him at the 70 day test in OK, they spoke very highly of his beautiful type, long legs, elastic walk, and canter (his trot is flatter hunter type, they would like more knee). As well as the quality/scope and how correct his jump is
We are for sure seeing a lot of type in his offspring, beautiful heads, long legs, modern, correct…elastic movers, length of neck is good, mine tend to be on the longer side.
The offspring are also easy to deal with and smart, out of a variety of mares
We had planned to show Checkmate this summer, however we have been too busy with the breeding season, he is fun to ride, loves the work and attention, we are working towards the shows next spring before breeding season.
His semen ships very well too, and has been used for ET’s as well.
I hope this helps, and thank you again for your interest.

I saw him at he stallion testing and he was one of my favorites! Gorgeous boy, fantastic jump, and seemed very sweet with a good mind.

He certainly is popular. It seems like every acquaintance I know with a good mare bred to him in 2013/14.

I had a Checkmate filly this year out of a For Pleasure mare. The filly is beautiful, correct and has a super personality! The vet even commented that she is his favourite foal this year, and he usually doesn’t make comments like that

I have a checkmate filly this year. I bred to him last year but sadly lost the foal. This year’s filly is the most personable foal I’ve ever had. She is tall and leggy with a very nice topline. She is very pretty and has a long neck, but the dam has a a very pretty head and neck so that helped I’m sure. She is a very good correct mover. She has more substance than the mare and she is a very substantial, muscular foal. The mare is very refined, so I suspect the foal will be a very nice sport type.
We bred the mare back for a full sibling which we’ve never done before.

I have a checkmate filly, very tall and legs for days. Personality is in your face and in your lap, very hard to take pictures! HAS to say hi to everyone, loves to be loved on, very smart and independent. As far as we can tell she has uphill movement, very flat in the front and nice hunter-esk canter. Very laid back, at inspections everyone was commenting how flashy she was. She walked right up to the photographer and wouldn’t leave her until the photographer acknowledged she was there and petted her. The one thing that I wish I could change about her is make her pasterns a bit shorter as they are bit on the long side. Not sure where those came from b/c mom and dad both have average length?

ETA: picture is of her at 2.5 months after we came back from inspections.
