Cheltenham Festival

I can’t believe there’s no thread yet…

Buveur D’Air, who made the switch from chasing to hurdles, won today’s Champion Hurdle to give trainer Nicky Henderson a record 6th victory. Henderson also trained the runner-up.

Altior, another Henderson trainee, took the Arkle easily. It might have been a closer contest had Charbel not fallen (he was fine); he was leading by a half-length at the second-to-last fence.

Possibly the most noteworthy win today was trainer Gordon Elliott’s Labaik in the Supreme Novice Hurdle. The 6-yr-old is notorious for refusing to start, having done so 4 times and coming close to being banned. But he was away agreeably today and won by 2-1/4.

Attending Cheltenham is on my bucket list! Top class racing and it just seems like it’s so much fun!

I’m watching the replays on The Jockey Club website. And I had every intention of placing a small bet on Labaik, but didn’t get around to it, arghh! My take on him is that he MUST be a smart horse
