Chester County, PA

I am moving to the area with my family and my 3’ AA hunter sometime before the end of the year. Husband will be working in Lionville/Exton area. I think we will end up in Unionville-Chadds Ford or West Chester School District. Great Valley School District is also a possibility.

I am looking for a barn within a reasonable driving distance of those school districts as I ride when my children are in school. Would prefer a trainer on-site and an indoor. I do not travel to FL in the winter, so would prefer a trainer who stays here.

I’ve searched old threads, but was hoping for more updated information.

If anyone has information on costs that would be helpful as well. I’m looking to stay under $1,000 for board. Lessons/shows/clinics/ etc. would be additional costs.

I would look into Ellen McGregor (West Chester), Kim Zindel Buzby (not sure?) or Troy Hendricks/Chrissy Serio (Glenmoore). I think Troy and Kim go south for a little bit, but pretty sure it isn’t their entire barn.

Unionville has a plethora of farms to ride at. You can always try:
Lindsay Crofton/Great Scott Farm in Malvern. I believe they may go to FL for the winter.
Brooke Coldiron Brown/Brownstone in Oxford. Brooke is great! I did 4-H with her years ago…
Melissa Lyster/M&M Equestrian in Honeybrook.
Louise Serio/Derbydown in Kennett Square. Not sure if Louise has a trainer onsite when she goes to FL.
Leigh Berman/Two Bit Farm in Boyertown.
Dawn Taylor-Bell/Out of Reach Farm in West Chester.
Priscilla Godsoe/Covert Farm in Nottingham
Mary Morrill/Bentbrook Farm in Chadds Ford

Jen Berry at Integrity Farms is located in Unionville and stays for the winter. She has a super program. The care is top notch and her clients are competitive yet friendly and supportive of each other. I believe Louise’s entire barn goes south for the winter and someone leases her facility in Kennett Square for the winter months.

Priscilla went south for a bit this past year and I believe she plans to again this year. I don’t believe she takes all her horses, but I do not know if anyone stays behind to teach.

Call/email these people: www.horsedelval.com and ask them to send you the Trainers Issue that just came out. Some of the ads are a bit of creative “fluff”, but it’s at least a good starting point.

I didn’t add Louise, since she does close up shop in PA for the winter, or at least has for the last few years. I believe Ellen McGregor moves to her place for the winter to take advantage of the indoor.

I would second Integrity Farms for you. It sounds like a good match between location, A rated shows, and not going to FL. Like comingback said, I’ve never heard a negative word about Jen.
