Chestnut WB dressage stallion in CA, showing GP, throws a lot of white on his foals

I am drawing a total blank on his name

He shows in the GP ring, he has an odd sounding name, I think he’s Dutch but not 100% sure on that, and he tends to throw excessive white on his foals

Located in CA - I believe a vet owns and campaigns him

Thanks if anyone knows who I am talking about!

Don’t know his owner’s occupation, but otherwise this guy fits your description…Ijsselmeer Ikopeno

Ijsselemeer. Chelsy Sibley rides him. Deb Harrison owns him.

I know him well. Chelsey and I used to ride the same trails. I would have bred to him at one time except I needed bigger. I think he’s retired now.

This filly has one of the most interesting facial markings I’ve ever seen. Fiesta…

I know. It’s cool. The Vosmaer/Ijsslemeer look so similar–chestnut, facial white, often with blue eyes, four white socks, and often belly white. If you look on the site, you can see he really stamps them. The one with the UB40 are also very similar.

Thats him! Thanks so much. Its such an odd name, totally drew a blank thinking of it and googling it!

I do remember that most/all of his offspring are small - under 16hh. Has that changed at all? Has he put some height on them through different mares?

How do his offspring do in the dressage ring?

Thanks again!

I know of a few very BIG and wonderful offspring. Check out Stacee Collier as well, she has a big girl by him who is doing very well.

I’ve seen many of his off spring, all very lovely horses with chrome and movement. I think Chelsey has a few herself.

Ijsselmeer is about 16 hands, so doesn’t throw any bigger than him, I think. It would depend on the mare. I had a narrow 16.1 hand mare very small for me, which is why it was a consideration.

If you really want to know more, email Chelsey or Deb. They’re both honest, good people and should be able to tell you what you need.

I don’t know specifically about him, but that whole line are workers and very ammy friendly. They are horses most anyone can ride.

I only know of 2 offspring, both are big, one of them should top 17 hands once he’s fully grown. Both are out of big mares. So size may depend on the mare with him???

^^^ Maybe. Mare size may well be the key with him

I PMed you.

One of our boarders has 2 young stock by Johnson… They are very nice and many friendly. But he is a dressage stallion and throws dressage foals!!!

My neighbor, Kyle Karnosh of Con Brio Farms in Gilroy, CA has bred to him a lot. She is a wealth of knowledge and I’m sure you can ask her all about him.

She has a 15.2 hand mare by him, and a super super chromed-out colt out of that mare that she recently sold.

I believe she has bred to him many times…

Deborah Harrison who owns Ijsselmeer is on the KWPN-NA jury. She will be at the inspection in Mount Albert, Ontario on Tuesday, Sept. 10. If you are interested in discussing Ijsselmeer and his offspring, you might be able to get a word with Deborah before she goes to lunch or at the end of the day.

That is not correct Dr. Harrison will not be at our keuring.
If you contact her direct she has a farm site I am sure she would love to discuss her stallion and answer any questions you may have.

I know of many offspring, few who look that alike unless they come out as the bigger, lots of white variety. They range in size from 15.2 to 17hh, so yes, I have seen VERY large offspring.

There was a bunch of people I know that seemed to be buying them a while ago. For whatever reason many of them have had major hind end lameness issues. But then again some of them have gone on to do very well in the ring. They were all bought from the same farm, and the breeder took one of the mares back that was never sound as a broodmare.

fwiw all the lame ones had pretty bad hind end conformation, so maybe that needs to be a consideration with the mare.

The same breeder Dr. Deborah Harrison http://www.liolomasdutchwarmbloods.com/ also stands Lauwersmeer who also throws a lot of white. His son Casanova won the 6yr old futurity at the California Dressage Society Championship show this weekend.
From the press release:
The judges also fell in love with “Casanova”, Jocelyn Hamann’s flashy Dutch Warmblood gelding (by Lauwersmere), awarding him the highest marks of the day in the six-year-old division to overtake the first-round leader and claim the overall Futurity title with a combined score of 72.449%.

The IJsselmeer is a big lake in The Netherlands I live 18 miles away from. In the past it was part of the sea but because of the “afsluitdijk” it became a lake. The rest of the horse’s name means nothing in particular I think.
