Chevaroo Seat Savers and Padded Underwear

I keep seeing ads for Chevaroo seat savers, which look like they would fit my Western and English endurance (Collegiate Marathon, 18.5") saddles well. The site claims that they can be used on all types of saddles. For my hunt seat saddles, I absolutely love the Mattes and ThinLine (I like to use the Mattes over the top of the ThinLine for added shock absorption), but I’d like to find something to fit the Western and English endurance saddles.

I’m also interested in the padded underwear for long-term comfort in the saddle, as I don’t have a lot of natural padding of my own. I’ve dealt with sore seatbones my entire life and have heard about people using padded bicycle underwear for this. For those who have used those, how do they work for you?

Has anyone tried the Chevaroo stuff, and if so, what do you think of it? I’m not familiar with the company at all.

Running Bear used to make riding tights with padding and I found a pair used at a yard sale. I wore then once to ride and hated them as I turned into a sweaty mess. Maybe would work better in the winter?

I have a thinline seat saver on the Pandora saddle, which my seatbones finds comparable to sitting on a 2x4. It does help. The Chevaroo looks a lot more substantial in terms of thickness, but I have never heard of them or seen one.

So I bought 2 in desperation. I have plenty of padding of my own, but the horse I am leasing has a big, bone-jarring trot. The padding is firm but has some give. So, it does not melt away under you, which is good. The padding is sort of butterfly shaped with 2 wings that cover your posterior seat bones, then narrows and finally widens slightly to give coverage to the front of your pubic bone for those riding in deep seat “lock and load” saddles. I fell for the buy 2 save money and would suggest buy one and see what it does for you. It helped, but feels a bit bulky when out of the saddle. I wear it in addition to my underwear. I think I may be developing pudendal neuropathy as a result of riding this sweet schoolmaster in his saddle.

I reached out to the company that makes Chevaroo seat savers because they also make therapeutic bras and they seem to accommodate people with disabilities. The pads are 1.5 inches thick and fit a variety of saddles. The company responds really fast, so I would recommend you reach out to them. The person who responded to me was super nice.

My specially cut sheepskin seat saver is almost four inches thick, so I’m hesitant to get something thinner. That said, the company is super approachable!

I bought the Derriere padded ones last year and have found them helpful on longer rides. I used to be fine with a sheepskin pad, but I seem to be getting more sensitive in my seat bones as I age.

The padding is slightly noticeable off the saddle but nothing crazy.

No experience with the Chevaroo ones so let me know if you try them!

@Equestrian24 - I have tried riding in bike shorts over or under my breeches/tights and didn’t like it. The padding never felt like it was in the right spot.

It’s entirely possible it was user error, but bike shorts just didn’t do the trick for me. The same shorts worked fine on my bike, just not in my saddle.

I have the Chevaroo padded underwear – bought specifically to wear when I ride in one of my western saddles that isn’t broken in yet – and the underwear is great! Felt like a little pillow between me and the hard seat. Really comfy.

Yes you know you’re wearing them = a little junk in the trunk, but worth it.
