Hello! We are considering a pretty big move from the west coast to Chicago to be closer to family. Starting to look for eventing or dressage focused boarding barns with good turnout within a somewhat reasonable drive from the city! Recommendations?
Farms with decent training and turnout typically are minimum 1 hr+ from the city at non-peak hours. Farms with great training and turnout are minimum 1 hr 30min ++. With traffic or bad weather and you’ll add on more to travel time.
I’ll send you a message. I think everything depends on location. For example, I’m in the north shore area. It’s super easy from here to get to downtown and also only 30 min to great barns. Chicagoland is every bit as wonderful as John Hughes portrays it. I think it’s one of the few places where you can access a world class city and horses if you’re smart about location.
Do a search using the keyword Chicago in this and the dressage forums. There have been a number of threads on this topic.
