Childeric Serial Number Help

I found a lovely used Childeric for a good price at the local tack store but I’m not sure what model it is or what the serial numbers mean. Can someone help?

The numbers read

3A M 17
106 06

I have a Childeric and I love it!

I’m pretty sure this means the saddle is a model M, 3a flap, 17 seat, and was manufactured in 2006. Hopefully some others will weigh in.

This is correct. I have three Childerics and am selling a couple but LOVE the model M. Great saddle! Good luck

What size/type flap is 3A?

I have model M, #1006 produced in 2006 with a 2 1/2 flap.

I think the 3 flap would be a little longer then the 2 1/2 but still fit an average sized rider well. I don’t think it refers to angle, they seem to be all the same.

Sit it it first to be safe. But that 17 is on every LC in my trainers tack room-and there are alot of them. It’s pretty forgiving.

VERY good saddle. The comfort of the Butet for the rider with more and wider support under the cantle (they look like an Anatares from the back) for the horse and a much more durable leather.

This is what I remember from when I worked at a tack store in the early 2000’s, but I’d email them or contact a tack store that currently sells them to double check:

1 - short
1.5- short forward
2 - regular
2.5 - regular forward
3 - long
3.5 - long forward
4 - extra long
4.5 - extra long forward

My memory could be totally wrong, though. My model M is stamped with the number, seat size (17) year (04) and flap (3). The M is a half-deep seat on an English tree.

Don’t ask me what a 3A flap is though. LOL.

Childeric used to do semi-custom work as well, not sure if they still do. My original model M from 2000 was a mix between a 3 and 3.5 flap as my legs are really long from hip to knee and I needed a little extra flap without it being too forward for my horse at the time. I don’t remember what the stamp on that flap said, though.

I’m a big fan of the Childeric saddles. Very well balanced, very comfy, and fit a good variety of horses.

Can you measure you 2 1/2 and tell me how long it is from the stirrup bar down?

Thanks

I talked to Running Fox today and they told me that a 3A was long, forward.

After talking to them, I’m pretty sure I need a 2 or 2 1/2

How tall are you? I am 5’6" with a fairly long femur and ride in a 17 3A and it fits me perfectly. They told me I could do a 2 1/2 too but I am definitely more comfortable in the 3A.

If you aren’t taking the one you found, would you mind PMing me and telling me where it is? I am looking for a used one

Sure, I got to go to the basement where the saddle lives now and put some clothes in the dryer in about 30 minutes, get back to you then. Stirrup bar to bottom end of flap straight down.

OK, top of stirrup bar right where leather sits straight down to the bottom of the flap, light tension with a cloth measuring tape-should be accurate.

13 1/2 inches or 34 1/4 centimeters. It’s on the tape measure, I don’t do math:lol:. Hope that helps.

The 3A is long forward flap. I just sold a very similar saddle!

Tree size in the codes?

Does the Luc Childeric saddle codes have the tree size listed?

Thank you.
