Chipmunk oil? For leather?

In looking for a pair of barn and riding boots I saw some that were “Chipmunk oiled leather”. They are by Roper and are listed in the Valley Vet Supply 2015 late spring catalog. Item #19540, Athletic Style Horseshoe, page 176.

I liked the description and price, but when I got to the part about chipmunks I folded!

ewwww!!! can you imagine how many of those fuzzy imps you’d have to squeeze out just to get a pint?! i hope maybe it is a mistype for mink?

That’s what I was thinking! Chipmunks are small and why would you want oil from them? There so many other types to use. ???

I think the color of the boots is chipmunk, and the leather is oiled leather. So the correct description would be: oiled leather boots in a chipmunk color.

Roper also makes boots that are listed as “Chipmunk pig suede.” I don’t think that Roper has been doing any cross-species breeding or DNA transfers. (Or maybe Roper is on the cutting edge of gene splicing…who’s to say?)

Aha! That makes much more sense. There is another boot style with the description “Smooth bay brown”. Gosh, amazing what a comma will do.

that makes more sense!! i did a preliminary search for “chipmunk oil” and came up empty… usually the oils are derivatives of the meat market… don’t think anyone eats those buggers?

Somehow the thought of Chip, Dale, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore getting rendered for their oil is a bit hard to take!!!

G.

P.S. Is chipmunk oil a joke? I only found one reference to it in a Google search and was of no help. Am I being “fished” here?!?!?!

i think it’s a joke… or someone doesn’t know the difference between a chipmunk and a mink!

Thats got to be expensive, how much oil can you press out of a chipmunk?

Looking at the rest of their boot descriptions I think it might be the writer. Maybe they need Elaine from Seinfield to put the best spin on their products. Ha!

Here’s a couple others: sea turtle crown and wingtip or alligator wingtip and crown.

I am ROTFL.

Chipmunks are so freakin’ cute, but you’d have to squeeze out a whole lot of them to get enough oil to put into production on boots!

We didn’t have chipmunks at my old place, but we’ve got them here and they are just adorable!!!

Chipmunks may look really cute, but we had a very determined fellow who chewed through metal window screens TWICE in 2 weeks in order to steal food off the kitchen counter. Little bugger.

They don’t go without a fight either…seen one take on a 14 pound cat!

This has been the best part of my day, thank you!!!

You may think they are cute, but I have a Paint gelding who knows the real truth, which is they could eat a horse in one bite. He doesn’t hesitate to spook and prepare for the big exit.

LMAO!! I’ve been avoiding opening this because I find chipmunks adorable and didn’t want to read about the oil extraction process!

 Maybe you just rub the boots with the chipmunk? Oil and boot brush in one?
